The Padres... Are For Sale
Yes, you read that right. John Moores has enlisted Goldman Sachs to find a buyer for the team, in the wake of his pending divorce:
The Mooreses reportedly own 90 percent of the team. Because of community property laws in California, Becky Moores shares 50 percent of that asset and must agree to any sale. Their daughter, Jennifer, owns five percent and the other five percent is owned by Glenn Doshay, a San Diego businessman, mlb.com reported.
Now, if the Padres are sold, I'm guessing they wouldn't have to cut payroll quite so much, because any new owner (presumably) wouldn't have a divorce hanging over his head. In any case, I predict this sale will be done before the Cubs' is.

I say we bid 50 Million
And have the new GM Al Yellon have him trade Peavy, Chris Young , Adrian Gonzalez and two players to be named later for Rich Hill and Chad & Jake Fox.

Perhaps Jake Peavy can buy the Dads?
Then he can control to where he is traded and for whom.

Can he backload the purchase?
(And what does Axelrod think?)

And why do we assume the sale
is gonna be completed quickly? This the implication I take away from this posting. A certain Chicago team’s sale has been on for a year.
This is why payroll WILL be cut and MORE players will depart.
This sale info was reported two months ago by San Diego’s NBC 7/39 sports department, crediting the info to ’unnamed sources." This just confirms the story. This is one (of the many) reasons my contentions for the Peavy trade remain viable.

I'm not assuming a fast sale.
Just figuring that it might take less time than the Cubs sale. Oh, and incidentally, one article I read said the Padres are ’no longer" actively shopping Peavy. (Though they will listen to offers if they get any.)

I guess it's just a different perception
when you are not in the market. All the people close to the baseball scene I talk with say nothing that’s said by anybody in the Padres organization can be taken at face value. ( “Peavy will be our Opening Day Pitcher.”) They are absolutly not to be trusted at all.
It’s just a headline on the national scene, but those who are here and see the organization at work know differently. I’m going to go with the insiders.
You know the Pads are lying…(wait for it)…when their lips move.
It’s an old line, but it fits this franchise right now. I guess we’ll just let things take their natural course.
