i don't buy the "time argument"
look, i’m not going to say who is right or who is wrong, as I obviously don’t know and only Brian and said lady knows. But using time as a key judgment isn’t right or fair. We don’t know the situation they were in, if she was scarred and/or scared. Maybe she was emotionally battered and abused to the point where she couldn’t act (not saying Giles is guilty of anything, just offering up a possibility). I don’t know, none of us do. Let’s give this some time before making a judgment. Abuse is a horrible, horrible thing.

I'm not saying that this is necessarily about the
money and his recently picked up nine million dollar option, but it is a bit odd why she waited this long. I

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the delay...
I mean, Giles has been rich for a while. If she was just doing it for the money, you’d think she could have done it years ago. Not saying that it isn’t just about money.
But the reality is that people who are abused don’t always come out with it right away. It can take years (and frequently it never gets brought up at all). Maybe it took the woman this long to be strong enough to talk about it. Or, maybe it really is just about the money.

Hello manslaughter charges, depending...
…on the state in which this happened. – TL
[In 2008] Kila Ka’aihue had the best on-base percentage of any hitter in the minor leagues. - Joe Posnanski, 11/9/2008 ... Ergo, let's give him a shot at first base in KC in 2009.

And I thought things couldn't get any bleaker for the Padres.
Definitely a team that didn’t need any more bad press.

I wonder if this makes Giles available via trade?

he was likely available before this
they tried shipping him to Boston last year but he turned it down. Now … well, now they might not be able to trade him if this is serious.

Disturbing video of what Giles is accused of...
… can be seen on this NBC San Diego page.

He said, she said...
stuff always seemed a little weird. Video on the other hand, that’s going to be harder to shake off. Obviously it’s grainy and “could” be anyone but that video is pretty scary. Aside from what that guy does, nobody did anything to step in, or they didn’t show it.
Either way, this isn’t going to end well for anyone. The Padres, Giles, or the woman.

that's a pretty
damning video. if there are witness reports and what not, he’s toast if she’s in this for justice (vs. say, money).

I hope she bleeds every penny out of the scumbag
The lowest form of life is a man who hits a woman. Brian Giles is a former juicer and I would not be surprised to learn that roid rage played a part in this. What a scumbag.

I’d love to see him in Maricopa County Prison…have you seen their sheriff? He is not very forgiving to anyone.

In the end, we all get what we deserve...
Giles looks like the bad guy. My pic is from San Diego, it is on the field, everyone I know there says that there is more to this story. I don’t know him or her, but this the U.S. We should reserve judgment. In the case he is guilty…frie him.

There is NEVER justification for a man physically assaulting a woman
This woman is a VICTIM. It doesn’t matter that a few years after the fact she is trying to extract money from him. It is NEVER EVER okay to strike a woman regardless if the woman is a wonderful person or the most horrible person on the earth. Brian Giles should be strung up by his ankles and bull whipped.
