Former Cub Dave Smith is Dead
Sure, he was good with the Astros and then stunk up in his last two seasons with the Cubs, but Former Astros and Cubs pitcher Dave Smith is dead of a heart attack.

One of my co-workers
Chuck Jackson played with him back in the day, I just passed on the news and heard a couple great stories from Chuck about him. Sounds like he was a pretty good guy, well liked and a good clubhouse presence.

Hmm... I'm thinking Chuck Jackson has some great stories about Chuck Jackson
The guy plays two years with the Astros in ‘87 and ’88, with about 150 at-bats total. probably a bench player or got hurt a lot. Then his next ML appearance isn’t until 6 years later! One game in ‘94 with the Rangers – a couple of at-bats but no hits, unfortunately. And that’s it.
There’s gotta be a great story or two in there somewhere. Hell, call up Kevin Costner or Dennis Quaid and turn it into a movie… ;-)

According to ...
… his Baseball Cube page, between 1988 and 1994 he played in:
Tucson, Omaha, Phoenix, Calgary, Oklahoma City, Edmonton, and Oklahoma City again, before his one return ML game with the Rangers.
Must have piled up the frequent-flyer miles, if nothing else…

Wow, yeah. That is amazing.
Hey, at least he can say he hit a couple dingers in the bigs.
Yes, yes ... winter is indeed a pond upon which all of us must skate, braving frostbite and runny noses in the hopes that our cars will start and we shan't embarass ourselves slipping on a patch of black ice. Spring is more a quagmire of cold mud and slush, and fall is a pile of fallen leaves that may or may not hide a pile of doggy doo-doo. But summer, ah summer is an oasis of endless green that disappears all too quickly beneath our feet as we rush through its warm, glorious bliss.

Only 53
That’s a relatively young age at which to go. I remember him as a good closer with the Astros. I thought the Cubs were going to win the NL East in 1991 with Danny Jackson, Dave Smith, and George Bell. I wish that had worked out better

Sorry the thread got hijacked
I think we should turn it back ti it’s original purpose.
But maybe someone could start one that that talks about guys from the big leagues that we know or even one about kids we personally know who are trying to move up.
i would but I’m really computer stupid, i’m lucky I know how to respond to a comment.
