Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

Just wondering if anyone has seen this, and if so if anyone has joined. The Ivy and the Marquee memberships are pretty steep.

That is pretty steep...

…especially considering that I’m still waiting for my 2008 Cubs Club membership card. :)

I figured that it was worth the extra $5 over what i would have paid anyway for MLB radio, but I don’t think that I got any use out of anything else from it last season…

i never got my 2008 cubs club card either-

i didn’t mind reading the press notes, but i’m not even sure you couldn’t get those somewhere else. Didn’t respond to their ticket opportunities last season, i see the Cubs are not including that in the standard cubs club membership this year.

Never had any luck...

…with any of the ticket opportunities. Though I only tried a couple of time, personally…

No membership card here either

I just sent a nicely worded e-mail to the Cubs noting that as well. I’m not holding my breath waiting for a response…

The Ivy and Marquee tiers are a joke. $130 and $250??? I could understand if you actually got the whole season of MLB.tv but all they’re including is a 30 day TRIAL!!!

The only thing mildly intriguing is this claim of a “special entrance”. My guess is either a reserved turnstile behind homeplate, maybe next to the media gate, and/or the entrance on Sheffield just south of the right field line, i.e. the right field version of the bleacher season ticket holder entrance.

I never got a 2008 membership card either.

The Red Sox did this last year with their “Red Sox Nation” — had three tiers, the third of which gave you a MLB.TV subscription and two guaranteed Green Monster seats.

The Cubs’ offer isn’t quite that good.

Did anybody get a membership card?

I certainly didn’t and had no response to two complaints. As to the location, this page (which requires that you logon with a Cubs Club userID and password), says:

The exclusive entrance for card-carrying Cubs Club “Ivy” or “Marquee” members is located on Sheffield just south of the knothole gate. The identification on the gate will be labeled VIP/Sponsor Party Gate. A valid “Ivy” or “Marquee” card will be required for entrance through this gate.

But it's on Sheffield!

Aren’t you a Waveland kinda guy?

During the season, I am most definitely a Waveland kinda guy...

…although I would gladly make an exception should Jimbo sign the likes of Adam Dunn.

But what I’m talking about here is over on Clark. I’m thinking everyone who didn’t get a 2008 Cubs Club Membership Card should go and make polite inquiries about the matter at the Administrative Offices entrance over there behind the Ernie Banks statue. And should the Cubs rep provide a less than satisfactory answer, I say we sit, link arms and shout a protest chant like…

Can’t have fun at the old ballyard,
if we don’t have our membership card!

and if that doesn’t get anywhere, we’ll have to bring out the artillery…

If we don’t get our membership card,
you’ll soon hear from our lawyer, DaBard!

Peace out…

I did

I did get a card the last 2 years in the mail.

Card

I received my cards the last two years as well. Must be a problem with local delivery.

Those are REALLY steep...

… considering you only get a 30-day MLB.TV trial membership out of it. The least they can do is give you MLB.TV for the full season, especially since they are not GIVING you those extra tickets for free, you have to buy them.

Membership Cards

I guess they were planning to present them in a special ceremony at the World Series.

I got one

But I can’t see spending the prices referenced for the tiered memberships.

The "Ivy" membership might be worth it...

… if they’d give you a full year of MLB.TV, instead of just a 30 day trial.

Really not worth it

I’ve gotten the cards the last two years because well I’m a sucker for anything Cubs related being out of state.

They promote message boards on there but they aren’t necessary if you come to BCB or really any other Cub forum.

They also send out these special ticket offers but they are never discounted.

You did get MLB audio for free but the fact is I usually get EI or mlb.tv so I don’t even use it.

by ak123 on Dec 20, 2008 9:10 AM CST reply actions

Wow just looked at the price levels

I was complaining about there not being enough benefits for the $20 membership but the $250 is ridiculous!

Anyone who actually spends $250 on that membership please let us know the quality of seats being offered.

by ak123 on Dec 20, 2008 9:13 AM CST up reply actions

Gameday Audio is really the only thing that makes the basic level worth it to me

Gameday Audio is $15 and the Basic Cubs Club is $20, so essentially you’re spending $5 for “legal” access to CubsCam, some “insider info”, ticket buying opportunities, and in theory a membership card. Since I’m not interested in the mlb.tv stuff (yet), the basic tier is worth it.

I guess I don’t mind being a Cubs sucker for a mere five bucks. Besides, one of these days, I’m guessing they’re gonna figure out how to password protect or otherwise limit access to CubsCam. Being able to see if the batting cage is set up before I leave the house is well worth five bucks to me.

Right.

The other levels have things that are worthwhile, but in this economy they are WAY overpriced.

Marquee Event

Anyone have a clue what the Marquee event is? $250 might not be bad IF you go to enough games to benefit from a VIP entrance and if the on field event is with players and coaches.
Where do you think Marquee seats are?
It is surprising they don’t offer some other “low” cost specialties to make it worthwhile. Discounts for Mlb.com team shop, Marquee picture with your name, Vine line.
