Rockies resign favorite BCB whipping boy, Glendon Rusch
Signed to a $750m Minor League deal with the intention of making him a swingman and lefty out of the pen.
As much as I hated seeing him take the mound towards the end of his Cubs career, I'm happy that he seems to be fully recovered from his health scare that looked as though it might end his career. We'll always have the memories of those bombs that Bronson Arroyo hit...

"Whipping Boy?" What??
I think you must mean Neifi Perez. All Glendon Rusch did for the Cubs was give the team plenty of innings, literally pitching until the guy’s — heart fell apart.
Teams should be so lucky to have a 5th starter with as much heart & guts as Rusch. Why focus on a few bad games? There are a host of pitchers over the past few years on the Cubs that deserve criticism, but Glendon Rusch certainly isn’t one of them.

Woah there...
I made no claim as to whether is was deserved or not, and like I said, I think that it is great that he has continued to work and has been able to find his way back to the mound. I wish him the best — in both health and career.
You have to admit, however, that there was plenty on disdain to go around when GR was a cub… Diaries such as these for example:

Again, not trying to personally insult the guy, or question his heart & guts but he’s not going to win any ex-Cub popularity contests anytime soon.

IMHO
They are off base. When Rusch was on, he was better than our current #5 starter.
The ‘whipping boy’ of three people.
Nice.

The 'whipping boy' of a lot more than these three people.
No need to jump down my throat though… I had no idea Rusch was such a touchy subject with you.

Smooth,
I can barely remember how many times Glendon was called “Doughnuts” by our membership. I, for one, am glad to see him bounce back — as I was to see the much criticized “Dumpster” morph into an all-star again.
Tough crowd, this.

His teammates had an even
worse nickname for him.
Rhymes with…..“Hits.” Starts with a “T.”

750m as in roman numeral m, meaning 1000.
Sorry…byproduct or working in finance.

I also neglected to mention (Be sure to READ the Denver Post Story)
the contract is 750K not 750 million! Good for the minors, though. I doubt if he makes the team and Coors Field wouldn’t be his friend.

I suspect he WILL make the team...
… as he pitched for them last year and had a decent season (4.78 season ERA, 4.32 ERA in Coors Field with only 4 HR allowed in 33 IP there).
I wish Glendon well.

The best of times, the worst of times...
Glendon Rusch will always have a special place in my ballhawk heart. I ended up with the Bronson Arroyo blast at Wrigley Field in April, 2006, compliments of Mr. Rusch. Clearly, not one of his shining moments.
On the other hand, September 29, 2004, Glendon reached out and touched one pretty damn hard, lifting it all the way out of the park and onto Sheffield for his 3rd career homer. I snagged that one as well and eventually got a chance to meet him and give it back to him. You should have seen the smile on his face – he was happy as can be…
