Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas
To Al and all of Jewish faith or ancestry I wish a most pleasant and happy Hannukah. To all others who celebrate it, Merry Christmas.
Al, you have brought me untold pleasure ever since I first encountered your passion for the Cubs on usenet (seems like decades ago doesn't it?). Having a place to go to read so much from those who share my passion for the Cubs is truly one of the highlights of my day. It is the discourse of BCB that has helped me to develop into the crazed, whacked-out, rabid fan that I am. Thanks Al for all you do.
Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas to all and here's to 2009 being out year.

Thanks, Luigi.
From me to all of you, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, or whatever seasonal greeting you would prefer.

Al...
I dated a Jewish girl a couple of years ago. Her Christmas with me was her first experience with one.
Before that, she got Chinese food every year with her sister.
What are the Yellon Dec. 25 traditions?
Last year was my first Christmas with my wife (as a married couple, that is) Our respective folks live 30 minutes apart and it is a chore. My best friend’s family is in Illinois; his wife’s is in New Hampshire and they live in Atlanta.
Can’t even imagine.
The worst beer I had was pretty good.

Usually I wind up working on Christmas...
… so that others can have the day off.

Back in the 90s
Back in the 90s I worked with a young woman who was Jewish and one of us had to be available at certain times always. I covered during the high holy days and she covered during Christmas and Good Friday.
It’s her son’s bar mitzvah which I’m mssing the convention for.

I do that at work too
I offer to be on call during Christmas eventhough I don’t have to ever be “on call” anymore due to my seniority. I’d rather go in during Christmas than have someone leave their family during the holidays.

Best Cubs gifts?
Maybe this is worthy of its own thread but what’s the best Cubs related holiday gift you’ve ever gotten?
Mine actually was this year (we did Hannukah 2 days early). My parents got a framed plaque that had inside a photo of Kerry Wood signed, official Wrigley Field mound dirt, Cubs logo in 24K gold and an engraving in the plaque noting Kerry’s years of service for the team. It’s numbered 101 of 134 and the authenticity on the back said it’s Kerry Wood’s official last signings as a Cub.

Got a signed Sandberg
ball for my birthday/Christmas present (one day apart). Sandberg of course was my favorite player.
This is only the beginning....Lou Pinella end of '07 season and Chicago Transit Authority (the band when they were really good).

This sounds lame now...
but at the time when I was 12 years old I got my first Cubs jersey ever. The blue pinstriped home jersey with none other than #22 Mark Prior on the back. My first bears jersey was a Cade McNown so obviously I didn’t have good luck with putting names on the back so now I just have a blank Cubs jersey. At the time that jersey was so cool though, and regardless of how dissappointing Prior turned out to be it was the greatest Cubs gift I ever got for Christmas.

Happy holidays
Tomorrow night I was going to be going to a Hannukah celebration at my sister in laws dad’s house but probably will be with my friend’s family.
My brother and his wife and kids celebrate both. We like our children to attend when invited to learn more about the religion their cousins are partially being raised in.

Happy Holidays all.
I guess my best Cubs present is the t-shirt pictured in my profile. So, um, yeah, I really need to get some better Cubs presents in the future.
Yes, yes ... winter is indeed a pond upon which all of us must skate, braving frostbite and runny noses in the hopes that our cars will start and we shan't embarass ourselves slipping on a patch of black ice. Spring is more a quagmire of cold mud and slush, and fall is a pile of fallen leaves that may or may not hide a pile of doggy doo-doo. But summer, ah summer is an oasis of endless green that disappears all too quickly beneath our feet as we rush through its warm, glorious bliss.
