Cubs Go 0 for 9 in TYIB 2008 Awards

I was pretty excited when I found out months ago that the Cubs were included in nine of the thirteen categories to mlb.com's This Year In Baseball Awards for 2008.  I figured maybe Reed Johnson's amazing catch in Washington would be the best or Geovany Soto's rookie season would be voted #1 or Big Z's no hitter would be the best moment for the season.

But no!  Not one Cub player or Cub performance was voted as a winner in ANY of the categories in which they were nominated in.

Imagine that!  I got all excited about the nine chances the Cubs had to be voted best but just like the 97 win season the Cubs had this year, it means almost nothing besides wishful thinking that led to nothing.

Oh yeah, the Cardinals (hitting), White Sox (defensive player), and Brewers (play) all got their share of being voted #1 in a category.  I guess it's not all that bad because Geovany Soto was voted NL Rookie of the Year, Aramis Ramirez won the NL Hank Aaron award, Lou Piniella won NL manager of the year Carlos Zambrano won a Silver Slugger Award and Ron Santo is going to be in the Hall of Fame... wait a minute!?

Go Cubs!
