I’d love to see the Bears dominate tonight…but wow it’s COLD!

It's cold for both teams.

Low-scoring game, I’d guess.

Does a cup of beer freeze in weather like that?

The day of the '85 season NFC Championship game...

it froze in the cub, bottle, can and keg. You had to warm your beer to drink it.

What was the temp that day?

Not that cold...barely below freezing

The day that was truly freezing was the divisional game the week before against the Giants (Sean Landetta whiffing on the punt and Shawn Gayle scooping it up for the TD). Game time temp was about 5-6F and the WC was about -20F.

Bear Down!

Every Bears/Packers game I've gone to Bears have lost, so I'm doing my part by staying at home tonight

The sacrifices I make for this team… ;-)

Actually, I’ve only been to one Bears/Packers game but it was a dandy. Monday night, Halloween, many years ago and it was a MONSOON!!!! It was the night they retired Magic’s and Butkus’ number.

I remember using binoculars to zoom in on them late in the second quarter. They were standing on sidelines getting ready for the ceremony. Sayers was standing still trying to stay dry under an umbrella, and looking like he wanted to be anywhere else, which was understandable considering the weather, not to mention the fact that the Bears were getting the snot kicked out of them.

Butkus, on the other hand, was pacing up and down the sidelines, grimacing something fierce, just itching to grab a helmet and get in there. You just knew it was killing him seeing the Bears losing like that, especially to the Packers…

Easily the worst game I've ever attended...

weather-wise. The rain/sleet was coming down sideways and hit you like a slap in the face. That’s the only time I ever left early.

Bitter cold, by comparison, is much more tolerable.

Maybe getting shut out of WInter Classic tickets was a good thing.

Drove by Soldier Field...

…on Lake Shore on my way home from work, and there were people tailgating in the parking lot. That’s dedication right there (or craziness). I don’t care how much coffee and/or liquor you’re drinking, it’s too cold to do much of anything tonight.

Are you talking about Beck Lake?

Because I’m pretty sure Lake Michigan is too large to freeze.

There might be some ice close to the shore, but that would be about it, I imagine.

No, I was talking about Lake Michigan.

I thought it froze when it got super cold. I don’t mean frozen solid, but I thought it froze

Anyway...

Bear Down! Big game tonight. Some yahoo on espn earlier was saying that since the Pack is going home after next week the cold weather might not be conducive for them playing well. I say it’s Bears/Packers, and if they can’t get jacked up for this game they deserve to go home after next week.

They play in Green Bay for crying out loud.

I hope I’m wrong and that the Bears roll over the Pack with little incident, but I doubt it.

I'll say it once, I'll say it again

The inability for this defense, particulary the secondary to not stop teams on 3rd and long has plagued this team the entire season. If they could have cut the number of times that happened in 1/2 the Bears defense would be unstoppable..

Forte's big runs tonight

made me realize the little things that I love about sports.

1) Wide Receivers blocking downfield.
2) Batters running out every groundball to second bass (Theriot)
3) I know there are others…

Anybody else?

It is the NFC north.

Any of these teams would finish tied for second in the SEC west. Yes, that is the weakest conference in the SEC.

...and think of the 3 games they blew late

All NFC South teams (Car, Atl & TB). Somehow if they didn’t do that and would be 12-3 right now, they’d be the worst 12-3 I’ve ever seen, except for their 13-3 team in 2001 that went out to lay a clunker at Soldier Field against McNabb and the Eagles.

Yet if that did happen, there would be so many folks out there talking of how great they are and how the road to the Superbowl goes through Chicago.

There was absolutely no excuse for losing the Atlanta game.

Also, if they had managed the clock a little better against the Titans, they might have had a shot at that game, too. They only lost by 7.

especially when their pass defence...

which is really what’s needed when the other team is trying to move the ball late, absolutely sucks.

I’d love to see the Bears go to a 3-4 up front on defence, but that will need a good NT and an ILB. Move Urlacher to OLB with Briggs on the other side. Both have great speed and can cover outside the numbers and be excellent in the zone. It’s whether or not yes-man Bobby B has the stones to initiate that with Lovey and Mr. GM this off season.
