"Peter Abraham of the LoHud Journal suggests the Yankees may be ready to move on from Andy Pettitte. He says that unless they're able to trade an outfielder such as Nick Swisher or Hidecki Matsui, they may not prefer to pony up the $10 MM for Pettitte." Anyone want Swisher or Matsui?

I'm fine with Swisher
Been discussing it in one of the fanposts above (Alternatives to Dunn and Bradley) but I’d be fine with Swisher … depending on the trade cost. I think Bradley still ranks ahead because of his bat. That said, Bradley could get decent interest from several teams. If the trade cost for Swisher is high, then you pass. If not, it’s worth a thought.
As for Matsui, his health is an even bigger issue than it is for say, Bradley. He was a LF to begin with, and some don’t think he can play in the field regularly anymore. If he can, he’s worth a thought. If not, I’d pass

No on Swisher.
Too flighty, and he had a pretty mediocre year last year.
If Matsui were healthy… maybe.

But don't you think Swisher could bounce back...
…from that mediocre year? He had an OPS+ well above league average in Oakland in ’06 and ’07. Methinks he may have just had a bad reaction to Ozzieball.
Yes, yes ... winter is indeed a pond upon which all of us must skate, braving frostbite and runny noses in the hopes that our cars will start and we shan't embarass ourselves slipping on a patch of black ice. Spring is more a quagmire of cold mud and slush, and fall is a pile of fallen leaves that may or may not hide a pile of doggy doo-doo. But summer, ah summer is an oasis of endless green that disappears all too quickly beneath our feet as we rush through its warm, glorious bliss.

The Sox seemed real happy when they got him..
… and real happy to dump him. If they thought he’d come back, why wouldn’t they keep him?

Well, again, maybe it was a chemistry thing with Ozzie or the coaching staff.
Where’s Dr. Crawdad when we need him?

methinks swisher was just terribly unlucky
his BABIP was at .251. Unless he’s got an extreme case of back to back years of extremely bad luck, he should be able to put up a .820-.840 OPS, and if he has some plus luck, it could be slightly better. I can live with that as an option.

I think he'll bounce back
extremely low BABIP. If it’s even normal, he’s a .820-.840 OPS type, which I’d be fine with.
As for the flightiness, I think it’s more a case of him not meshing with Ozzie. There was never any issue in Oakland. And honestly, I think the Cubs locker room could use a guy like Swisher. I think Cub fans would love him as well.
