Merry OT: Super Awesome Kickass Gift Thread
Okay. Guess what this thread is for?
That's right: Pictures of various holiday paraphernalia in unusual situations.
This guy also volunteers at the local airport when the power goes out.
I can has ornament?
And for those of you who were wondering, this is how Santa really gets into your house.
So, since my family always opens gifts on Christmas Eve, I figured I would start this thing off. Being a studio gear geek, I was thrilled to get a ribbon microphone (and I didn't even have to trade the Bluesmobile for it), a pair of tube-driven microphone preamps (which should come in twice as handy since they can double as DI boxes for my bass), and a sweet skull-and-crossbones bowtie (because straight ties are for suckers).
So, what did YOU get that you actually wanted (i.e., not a three-pack of undershirts, unless you really like that sort of thing, in which case I would suggest asking for a psychological evaluation next year)? Alternately, what did you get someone else that blew them away?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Kerry Wood memorabilia
A signed Kerry Wood photo in a plaque enclosed with Wrigley Field mound dirt and a 24K gold Cubs logo. With the inscription saying this is one of the last 134 autographs Kerry signed as a Cub. I’m numbered 101/134. It’s AWESOME.

My sister knitted me a stocking cap that looks like one of those chompy things from Super Mario Brothers. It’s amazing.
Before each game, please remember to feed the bats.

I got some nice stuff...
A blue alternate Mark Grace jersey with a Harry Caray patch on the sleeve (just like in ’98), a plaque with photos of Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Wood, Zambrano, and Fukudome with a June 20, 2008 ticket stub inside, and signed photos of Theriot, DeRosa, Dempster, Marmol, and CC Sabathia was also tossed in. I had a GREAT baseball haul this year.
I also got a new digital camera, a new DVD recorder, NBA 2K9 on 360, Blackhawks tickets for January 4th, Chinese Democracy, Genesis’ 1983-1998 box set, Journey’s “Revelation,” and some nice new sweaters and jeans. Great holiday!

I got to re-watch a great Cubs game...
…Call me crazy but I loved the fact that they showed a Cubs game and a yearly recap today. For a few hours I forgot it was cold outside and I hung on every pitch, even though I already knew the outcome. I suppose that’d be instinct kicking in.
Thanks Comcast.
One thing you learned as a Cubs fan: when you bought you ticket, you could bank on seeing the bottom of the ninth.

+1
I love listening to Len get all riled up like in that game. And any time we beat a division rival is reason to smile
The recap was disappointing. They could have made it more of a story than to just cover the three our four stories that made national news. And who are those guys (as far as why are THEY talking about the Cubs as opposed to Len/Bob/etc)?

I was lucky enough to
get the DVD package of the Cub games. Watched Woodys 20K game. Never saw the game before. My kids were shocked to see so many empty seats.
I miss Sandy Martinez almost laying down behind the plate to set a good target for Woody. Woods stuff was just scary, but we know how his career went, just stinks he is not with this club, Yankees spend 430M on three players and the Cubs can’t cough up 10M for 1 year, Oh I digress
I did forget that Phil Regan was the pitching coach.

A Cubs Cement Block...
Every year my sister in-law makes me a Cubs themed gift. One year it was a blanket. When our twins were born, she made twin Cubs blankets. She made us a Cubs collage last year in a frame that was pretty cool.
This year, she painted a big cement block with the Cubs Logo on it. Not sure what the hell I’m supposed to do with this, but I suppose it’ll go well in our garden.

Sandberg Game
I had TiVo’d the ESPN Classic rebroadcast last March of the June 23, 1984 “Sandberg Game” on NBC Game of the Week. I have a friend who regularly talked about it as being the best regular season Cub game of all time (his distain for the Cardinals is equal or superior to mine). I burned it to DVD to give to him at Christmas. Unfortunately he died unexpectedly two weeks ago — truly a hearbreaking event. I gave the DVD to his 16 year old daughter as a rememberance of her dad’s favorite game. She really does not care much about baseball, but I hope that she’ll watch it some time in the future and think about her dad.

So sorry to hear about your loss
I’m sure your friend’s daughter was very touched and appreciative of your gesture.
And, you know, I think it’s simple acts like these that attract people to the Cubs and makes them fans for life. You watch – in no time she’ll have have Bob Costas’ dramatic HR calls down pat and have tickets for the first game against St. Lous next year.

Not exactly my Holiday gift
but my friend who has Yankee season tickets and feels really bad that I got laid off is offering me his extra ticket
for BOTH Cub/Yankee games. I will actually try to get one of the cheap bleacher/grandstand seats so he can take someone who gives a rats ass about the new Stadium to one of the games.
