A healthy Brad Penny is very solid
I’d certainly take a flyer on Penny. Smart move by Boston.

Another smart move by the best organization in baseball
Penny is only one year removed from back to back 16 win seasons. It isn’t out of the question that he could match or better the numbers for Burnett this year.

I would say he's going to be worth every Penny
And only a 1yr deal. Great move by the RedSox. Especially when you consider this other deal:
Pitcher Daniel Cabrera formalized his one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Washington Nationals after passing a physical Monday.
Cabrera went 48-59 with a 5.05 ERA in 147 games over five seasons in Baltimore. He went 12-8 as a rookie in 2004 but has had four consecutive losing seasons since, including 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA in 30 starts this year.

Daniel Cabrera still has loads of potential
He reminds me a lot of Juan Cruz. Like Cruz, Cabrera has among the most liveliest arms in baseball. His stuff can be electric. The problem is harnessing his ability to become a productive pitcher. It maybe a case that he has a 10 cent head, but that said a one year $2.6 million deal on Cabrera is a worthy investment from my point of view. The potential is always there to be the next Joaquin Andujar. Is that going to happen? Maybe not. But still, hard to pass up a guy with an arm like that.
