LIFE magazine has made many of their photos available online (Cubs). I particularly liked the ones of Charlie Grimm and the one of the "college of coaches."

They look happy.
It must have been taken in spring training, before they lost any regular season games.

Southside bias?
Interestingly there are only 3 pages of Cubs photos but 10 pages of White Sox pictures.
The Charlies Grimm photos are great. Grimm’s knickname was “Jolly Cholly” but just about every picture is of him yelling and/or fighting. Perhaps Not So Jolly Cholly would have been a better nickname, if these pictures tell the story.
LIFE must have assigned a photographer to the Cubs in the ’61 Spring Training to catch the “college of coaches” because they have this other smiling coaches picture.
