Why Bradley Why?
How much cheaper is Milton Bradley going to be instead of Adam Dunn? Bradley played all off 19 games in right field last year and if Soriano has taught us anything its that signing someone coming off a career year can turn out very badly. Dunn has averaged 40 and 100 every year for the past 5 years. Why not him? He's rarely hurt and has been playing the outfield a lot over his career, neither of which can be said for Bradley. PLEASE HENDRY NO MILTON

Well, if this report is true he could be headed to Washington.

Washington needs some kind of impact player.
They were trying to get Teixeira, that failed.
In this case, Bradley’s impact could be against the OF wall.

That doesn't make any sense.
Washington already has Dukes, Milledge, Willingham, Patterson, Kearns and Mo-Pena. Are they trying to field two different outfield or something?

Washington can have Bradley
I’d rather have Dunn hitting 45 homers.

I'd rather the more valuable player
The one who doesn’t kill us on defense.
The one who would be more valuable even if he only played 2/3rds of the season.

Yes
As an all-around baseball player, Bradley is much more valuable.
Cwyers makes a good case for this here.

Valuable and Bradley cannot...

Please expand on that
In what universe does Milton Bradley have no value? In what season has he not had positive value?
by Wreckard on Jan 1, 2009 1:04 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Same could be said of Bonds and Sosa....
….and we could probably get one-year deals on them.
BTW – yes, anyone who has ever gotten one hit technically has “positive value,”
I’m talking about NET, OVERALL effect.

They gotta get that team going...
Its a big market, but how long can they wait around? I dont know much about their system, but that franchise hasnt been the same since the 94 strike

Does this really require a new diary?
Given that there are lengthy, lengthy debates about the merits of this potential signing here and here?

Maybe those are getting a little long.
Consider this an overflow thread.

Sorry guys
Bradley is pretty much a Cub right now and hopefully will be made official in the new year. The Nationals that’s funny anyone would even mention that. LOL. As for Dunn and Bradley sure you can talk about injuries all you want, you can’t tell me that the Cubs front office hasn’t done their due diligence with Bradley. From the way the Cubs are “targeting” Bradley, he appears to be healthy in their eyes. Take that as for whatever it’s worth.
In a recent post, somebody asked if Bradley is better than Dunn. My answer is yes. First look at the defense. Bradley’s defense is superior to Dunn’s defense. People talk about Dunn and his OBP. Look at Milton’s OBP. Very similar, so for all those ppl who want to throw his OBP into this discussion, don’t cause Bradley can get on base just as well as Dunn. BTW Bradley had a higher OBP last year than Dunn. Dunn obviously has the power advantage. But truly with Ramirez, Soto, Soriano, and Lee, power isn’t really a true need. It is a plus however. As for health, Dunn is healthier than Bradley no doubt. But really, what if Dunn signs with the Cubs and then gets injured in the first month. What happens? Injuries are injuries, and THEY CAN"T BE PREDICTED.
Bradley can’t stay healthy. Bradley is this and that. OK enough, i know he has been injury prone the last like 50 years of his life, there’s no source that can tell you if he’s going to be healthy or not this year. Remember Miguel Tejada, he was never injured. Guess what he got injured this year i think, and went on the DL. It’s a crap shoot people. It can’t be predicted. I bet a lot of people here wanted Kerry Wood back last year. He had a very similar rap sheet to Bradley’s. He stayed healthy and you guys wanted him back this offseason. I wanted him back to. It’s very unpredictable.
As for Bradley’s temperament and attitude, teammates tell the real truth. His teammates like him and also Bradley damn sure wants to win.

Milton Bradley is a virtual done deal with the Cubs
It’s just a matter of Jason Marquis returning to the country from vacation to take his physical. Once the Colorado deal is sealed then we will see the official deal go down on Milton Bradley. I’m guessing 3 years at close to $40 million.
Again, despite the fact that Bradley is a garbage human being, I like the move. Best of what is available out in the marketplace that fits with Jim Hendry’s tight budget parameters. Bradley will once again be a plus outfielder once his knee is back to near 100%. And he will give a big boost to the Cub lineup. The man can hit.

Wow, that's not too much of a subliminal racist post
Sounds like you have a problem with black ballplayers. Jacque Jones played hard for the Cubs in every game by the way. Cubs expected too much out of a guy who was strictly serviceable in Minnesota.

Meanwhile...
…you call Bradley “human feces” and “garbage.” Stones, glass houses, people, throw, yadda yadda.
Yes, yes ... winter is indeed a pond upon which all of us must skate, braving frostbite and runny noses in the hopes that our cars will start and we shan't embarass ourselves slipping on a patch of black ice. Spring is more a quagmire of cold mud and slush, and fall is a pile of fallen leaves that may or may not hide a pile of doggy doo-doo. But summer, ah summer is an oasis of endless green that disappears all too quickly beneath our feet as we rush through its warm, glorious bliss.

In fairness, I suspect that has more to do with Bradley's personality...
I don’t think the original poster’s comments were racist (just happen to reference three black players). But I can more easily see that connection than the racial aspect of BLou’s statements.
I agree that Jones shouldn’t be considered an “I don’t care” player or a slug. I think the OP was off-based there – Jones was just a victim of circumstance.
However, I do think BLou’s insinuation is out of line. While I think the OP is off-base in slamming Jones, I think it is incredibly unfair to imply that the comments are racist or to suggest that the poster has a problem with black players.

Don't forget the Derrick "Moses" Lee
remark on Weds he made. The only translation to that is not overt.

Why Bradley?
Because Jim Hendry has his “Hendry guys,” and no matter how old, bad, or how costly, he will always pursue these guys at every trade deadline and offseason until he finally gets them here.
And he’s been talking to Bradley for a couple of years now. Time for a loaded contract with a no-trade clause.

First hand...
I watched Bradley first hand here in Texas, he is a moody person, if he wakes up and decide’s not to play he dosent. Lou and him will be at each other very quickly, he has a history of problems(not 1 or 2 ) but many! He is alot worse in right field, than Dunn, then when the fans get on him, it WILL turn ugly. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and can and will be a club house cancer. If we sign him, I predict Big Z, knocking him out two months into the season. Fisrt hand news…

I do not follow the reference to Soriano?
I wasn’t happy with the term of his contract but he’s played well for the Cubs. The Cubs would have been crazy to expect significantly more from him than he has produced, he’s done a good job for the Cubs during the season.
If we learn something from Soriano it is to keep the term of the Bradley contract shorter. But I wonder how Bradley will respond to the pressure of playing in Chicago, to me the latter is the potential downside to bradley, i.e., what f the pressure affects his performance and that’s much much more speculative.
