San Diego beatwriter on Peavy talks
Below is a link to the San Diego Union Tribune's beat writer regarding the Peavy talks. Sounds like Hendry is standing firm, and has taken Marshall off the table. Lou agrees. That's good news. Also, the Padres need a shortstop. The guy who took over after Greene was hurt isn't considered a major league starting shortstop. Again, good news for us, and enhances the value of Cedeno.
They quote a specious article in the Sun Times that Peavy was seen shouting "Go Cubs go," in a Vegas bar. Maybe it was a Peavy impersonator.

Dear Santa:: All I want for X-mas this year is an official 2009 Jake Peavy Cubs Jersey. Oh and a Beimel one too. I've been a real good guy for the most part!!!

Hardly a ringing endorsement.
I’m a Tele guy myself, primarily, but I did recently get a nice Ibanez jazz-box.

Tell me about it
How do you burst onto the scene like he did and get worse on your instrument? I guess substance abuse took its toll.
I’m a Les Paul man. Got 2 of those, I had 4 at one time but had to sell 2. I’ve had an Ibanez RG series which was a sweet guitar. I’ve had Shecter too. My dad has a Strat. Don’t really like Fenders though.

Beatle Bass or nothing! (not really)
One of these days I might even be able to get a real Hoffner. Or a classic Gibson EB3 with the chickenhead switch. But P-basses are highly overrated.
"Well, we're out of cake! We only had three bits and we didn't expect such a rush! So what do you want?"
"What, so my choice is 'or death?' Well, then I'll have the chicken, please."

Fender/Ibanez
Actually, the single guitar I wish I’d never sold was my old Guild Bluesbird w/original P-90 pickups. I’ve looked at prices for them now, and they’re just so far out of reach it’s scary.
Fenders are nice for one reason – they’re really easy to work on, and if anything goes wrong, bolt-on necks make it easy to replace the bad bits rather then replacing the whole thing.
Like my new Ibanez, though – it’s really a nice unit, fit & finish as good as anything costing three to four times as much from a bigger name manufacturer. (Artcore AF-95)

One problem...we don't have any ML Shortstops on our 40 man roster.
As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I didn't know we needed one of those.
A-Ram has good range to his left.

Well, we've won our division 2 years running without one...so maybe it is overrated.
But Joe Morgan says you HAVE to have one for the playoffs.

The latest I heard was it was gonna be done, just not by the end of this week
so take that for what its worth, I think he’s worth the wait.
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

i just hope it gets done
would be a great rotation, and as kruk said on espn….there would be a lot of hamstring issues with opposing hitters as they came into town to face that rotation.

The most exciting news in that article
is that Angel Guzman is throwing 96 mph in Venezuela.

Guzman will either be the comeback story of the year or hurt himself again
He probably has a couple of good years if he can stay healthy—-but he always had dominant stuff.

Would rather hang onto Marshall.

Whether the "Go Cubs Go" thing is true or not...
… it’s one of the funnier things about this whole mess.

Heard that on XM this AM too.
You know, between the drooling and orgasming over the Yankess and CC. One of the hosts mentioned the “Go Cubs Go” thing and the other guy said, “What’s that? One of those silly songs?”

Twins could play in Peavy deal
Unfortunately it involves DeRo…I’m negative on DeRo going. If the Cubs had a replacement, maybe or if they were desperate for SP, maybe. But neither of those apply.

actually makes more sense than Philly
DeRosa playing 3B for a contender who could effect the ChiSox is relishing and even has onions and mustard on it too.
As for Peavy’s singing….it kind of tells you how much little leverage the Padres have except cutting off their nose to spite their face….they know it…he knows it.

Just let go of this deal and ask the media to stop reporting it....
Hendry is correct…stand your ground. To “REPORTEDLY” give up Derosa, Pie, Vitters, Hart is a little much. We DON’T necessarily NEED Peavey. We need offense, offense, offense. Use those prospects to get Brian Roberts or Chone Figgins, or use some of the budgeted money like for the Peavey contract to sign Bradley or Abreu. We need some offense.
I would love to get Peavey, but to take on his WHOLE contract and give up so much, doesn’t really seem like an even deal. Normally in a salary dump you don’t give up as many top line prospects. Go JIM!
