My girlfriend drives back and forth and was out there today. When I called she was on her way out of town and had seen a number of cop cars, but didn't know what was going on.

I'm an NIU alum....
...and this is, obviously, highly disturbing. It's also somewhat eerie after that scare that took place a couple/few months back.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 Chicago Cubs starting outfield: Soriano-Pie-Fukudome. Let it be.

im
a student at niu. It is rather alarming after december's threat and scary how close to home this is hitting. Everything is now fine, the gunman is reportedly dead, possibly shot by police.

I live in DeKalb.....
I went to NIU, I am from Wheaton but moved 5-6 miles away from campus out there because I was promoted within my company out to Aurora.....DeKalb had the best property for the money, so I went back...

This is seriously shocking....I am literally shaking.

good lord
something has to happen now at schools. I am tired of seeing people getting killed at school and nothing happening to prevent these kind of attacks

Apologies.
Obviously, I posted that long before this tragic shooting at NIU. I was out this evening, took it down as soon as I could.

I don't mind postings on events like this, as it helps our community to discuss it, especially since I know there are quite a few NIU grads and students who read BCB. My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in yet another senseless tragedy.

It's so sad...
...that you can't even put up a St. Valentine's cartoon anymore. The madness with guns in this country is out of hand. When will it all stop? My thoughts and prayers to all of the victims of yet another senseless tragedy. When I went to college, all we worried about was drinking beer and women. What's wrong with people?

Point well taken, Al
Who could have known.

I think we all knew about the Capone/Moran 1929 reference.

May to good Lord take away the pain on the souls of the innocent and their families.

I go to NIU...
However, I do not live there, I commute.  My thoughts are with everyone at NIU.

And it shouldn't be frowned upon. Never understood that. Everyone up there be safe.

Condoloences
This is maddening and very sad. Anyone with a credit card can go to Walmart or Cabela's and arm themselves with a deadly weapon.

I know this is not a political blog, but still-- can someone (again) try to explain how the framers of the Constitution contemplated the combination of easy credit, Walmarts, shotguns, semi-automatic machine guns and ultra violet films and videogames when they drafted the "right to keep and bear arms" language of the 2nd Amendment? Originalism/strict constructionism is an ideology, or a theory, perhaps, but it is not hella practical in the 21st century.

this madness stop? This stuff breaks my heart.

My sister
was at DuSable just across from Cole Hall. She walked through Cole 15 mins before the shooting. She is really freaked out, but ok. Hell, I am still freaked out about it! She has a class in that hall on Fri at 3pm. Thank God it wasn't today.....

NIU is my alma mater
and today I weep for the innocent victims and their families.   That a coward can abruptly end the lives of young people with their entire lives in front of them is beyond my comprehension.

May God bring those victims healing and grace in their hour of greatest need.

crazy
I went to NIU.  I met my wife there.  I met my best friends there.  What a tragedy.

I've been in Cole Hall a million times--as has just about every other NIU student and alum.

I go to niu
and live on campus....this is truly a tradgic day for everyone in the community.  Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims.

can't help but think
of last year's VT slayings too as a frequent contributor at Minorleagueball.com (John Sickels site) was one of the students gunned down.  This is a tragic loss and my prayers go out to all.
