Just a tad OT: Padres say Prior could be ready by May...

Read the entire article here: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7744864/Padres-will-take-it-slow-with-injury-prone-Prior

Hmm. Seems Senor(ita) Prior has magically managed to shrink his timetable. This could be a couple things: The Padres could be simply overestimating the rate of recovery for Prior, or Prior himself could possibly not have been as hurt as he'd been letting on. Personally I think it's the former, but if Prior actually was dragging his heals on his injury simply to spite the Cubs last year, I'd be somewhat peeved.

But, all in all, I'm rooting for him to be pitching by May. Perhaps I've decided to take the high road, wish Mark all the best at his new job, etc.....nahhhhh. My real reason? San Diego visits Wrigley May 12th-15th. How sweet would it be for Prior to make his first start for the Padres at Wrigley, only to be booed by the fans and shelled by the lineup?

OOOH, or better yet, DLee could charge the mound. Just tell him it's Chris Young pitching.

Yes, read the entire article.
Read this part in particular:
Prior's agent, John Boggs, advocates a more cautious approach.
"I would hope we wouldn't try to expedite things," Boggs says. "As far as I'm concerned, we didn't want to be in a position where he'd be rushed into duty."

Prior, 27, missed all of last season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder April 24. He could be major-league ready by mid to late May, according to the timetable outlined by his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews.

"To do it before that starts to cross boundaries of being prudent," Boggs said. "I'd like to see him by the end of May, June 1. I don't want to see it before then. Then I think you're trying to hurry something that shouldn't be hurried.

Isn't that what we used to hear from the Cubs? He'll be ready in May. No, June. No, August. No, next year.

This article borders on nonsense. I don't expect Prior to pitch until August 2008, if at all this year.

Prior is doomed
because he will have to face the upgraded power-packed Cubs lineup, including our new "Dome-Power-Son"!

I see Prior lasting at most 2.3 innings, and his best pitch will be serving up 78 mph powder puff towel balls.

Is Dusty...
... trying to reconstitute the 2003 Cubs? Who's next, Troy O'Leary? Dave Veres? Mike Remlinger? Randall Simon?

I think we all know by now...
...that part of Dusty's MO is getting players he's comfortable with, "his boys" as I think Scott Wiliamson put it.

The problem with this method is:

  1. Dusty is not the keenest evaluator of baseball talent.
  2. His favorite sons continue to get older, thus lowering their value further.

Well...
... I suppose Tony Womack, Rey Ordonez, and Enrique Wilson are still available.

Figured that would be obvious.
Here are some guys he'd have to trade for: Freddie Bynum and Jose Macias.

by Al Yellon on Feb 2, 2008 11:00 AM CST up reply actions

I don't think Macias...
...can be traded until June, because he signed as a free agent.

And then you'd have to explain to me why you think the Pirates would be willing to trade him within the division.

(Okay, now seriously: Macias is on a minor league deal with a NRI. So, when the Pirates cut him out of camp - how long until the Reds sign him? We could even start a pool on this.)

Dusty needs
a real good GM to be successful.  And I mean, a real, real good one that makes all the roster decisions.

I'm going to save a lot of posters some time
and post the obligatory response any time Prior's name comes up.
  1. Mark Prior is more evil than Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Dusty Baker combined.  If Dante were alive today, Mark Prior and his dad would replace Judas and Brutus in the mouth of the devil, being chewed on for eternity.  And if I was able to read that account and meditate on it and nothing else for an entire day, my anger against the Evil Priors would still not be sated.
  2. Mark Prior will never pitch again, and if ever it appears that he is pitching, it will be a San Diego conspiracy, where some unknown Australian pitcher was surgically altered to look like Prior, with calf and thigh implants and facial reconstruction.
  3. If by some Faustian deal, Prior was able to pitch in a T-Ball league somewhere, even I, my 6-month-old, and Ryan Theriot would hit Grand Slams on the first three plate appearances in the game.
Dunn, Duncan, Lee, Bay, and now Braun... I hope the Cubs are practicing hitting to LF!

You forgot one thing
referring to Prior as , "The Employee".

by DTJchris on Feb 2, 2008 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

Mark Prior made me forget; it's his fault
but I can fix that now:

4. The Employee should be sued for stealing company property.  After all, he forced Jim Hendry to throw billions and billions of dollars down the toilet that was his rehabbing arm.  And he didn't even write a thank you note!  The Employee should try to be more like Kerry Wood and dye his hair blond and grow a goatee.

Dunn, Duncan, Lee, Bay, and now Braun... I hope the Cubs are practicing hitting to LF!

If they try him in May....
he's dead.

I hope the Cubs face him
The May series is too early, maybe in June if any of these reports are accurate.  I always like it when we face a starting pitcher that tops out at 84mph with a flat curve ball.

Thanks for posting my material.
I'll try a different tactic.
Shamu will develop a split-finger fast ball before the SDHS grad ever throws a pitch in anger.

How about that?

only the cubs could have  the 2 best pitchers,a.k.a. prior/wood and have them both go down in flames.all part of the curse i guess.prior is not a cub anymore and not worth writing about anymore

for real.....
i'm with you nomar!tired subject matter to say the least.

by cubz409 on Feb 3, 2008 1:30 PM CST reply actions

well, ive written this before
I had fairly sever shoulder surgery in June, now obviously I also am an employee therefore am not rehabbing all the time, nor do I follow the strict program that well.  But still nearly 7.5 months later and I am waiting for the snow to melt to start a throwing program.  By that I mean 5 mins of throwing at 10 feet distance and increase that over time.

Prior had a different surgery but simmliar in severity.  Doubt hes anywhere near Wrigley May 12.

BTW, I made the college team for 1 DAY!!!! I was in so much pain throwing but it didnt matter I wanted on that team, then couldnt lift by arm for a while, and eventually it busted good in a softball league.  I maxed out at 86 MPH and averged 81.  I was an outfielder but asked the coach what he wanted and he said LHP, which I almost was, well the lefty part.  1 of 3 people to make the team and had to bow out right after that

Which sucked
because they didnt let the pitchers hit, my best aspects were hitting and arm strenght.
Therefore, I stand by my 1-31
