K. Greene is NOT going anywhere
There has been some speculation on this site and others that maybe the Cubs could get Greene from the Padres. Well it looks like he is about to sign a two year deal to stay put so you can forget about him. Theriot will be the starting SS for the Cubs in 08 barring something unforeseen. I personally am fine with that. He faded down the stretch but was solid otherwise. There will be plenty of time to make a move during the season if it isn't working out.

Now we can just continue to debate the merits of a B Roberts trade instead. Just kidding. I for one refuse to post anything else about it until a deal is actually signed off by Peter Angelos (which will be never). MacFail was an idiot for going there.

Greene
Completely agree
He wouldve been a nice fit though...
Thats really too bad though, I thought he wouldve been a better move, granted really low obp, but he can pick it and has some power to boot.
Even if this story is true

Well...
It was in The Californian this morning
For what it is worth the article did also mention (with a quote from Towers) that they will NOT sign Barry Bonds. This just made me laugh!

It was mutual
No- Angelos should never have been allowed
Bottom line- McFail was an idiot for taking the job so long as Angelos was still in charge.
Well said
Regarding McPhail, I still think he has aspirations to be commissioner one day, and doing sometime with Angelos could actually help him when Bud steps away in 3-4 years. Angelos is not a good owner, but he is a powerful one. If Andy can deal with his goofiness for a few years, it could help launch him to where he wants to be.
Signing a deal does not
Still, I agree that Greene to the Cubs is not likely - more because Hendry appears not to be looking for a SS than because SD would "never" trade a "cornerstone." (I don't agree he is a cornerstone to them; they value OBP too much for that to be the case.)
And as long as the Cubs and Pads are talking about any player, Greene could come up. But for that matter, so could Scott Hairston.
ss
interesting little side note
