Alternative Jerseys still out for this year?

Heres a subject I havent seen yet...

Does anyone know if the Cubs will continue to use the home and away jerseys only this year? I believe it was McDonough who pulled the alternative jerseys from use last year. Personally, I do not like them used for home games but didnt mind them on the road so much. Maybe if they were brought back Carlos would be more comfortable! lol

Felix Pie will have a higher batting average the Neifi Perez his on-base pct. this season.

This is a lock now huh?
Should be easier for Pie with Neifi officially snubbed by the Rox.

But now...
... Neifi has plenty of time to get himself to Florida and see if he can hook on with Dusty's Reds!

Wouldn't that just be AWESOME?
If Dusty got him in camp and then ultimately ended up playing his washed up ass.

I'm still waiting for Dusty to come out of retirement to help salvage a losing season.

This is a shrewd move by the Rockies
They know the Dusty/Neifi love affair, so the Rockies figure that can flip Neifi for Jay Bruce and/or Homer Bailey.

I can just picture it now, "Dude, He [Neifi] doesn't clog bases dude, that's what we need," says Dusty.

AP - The Rockies traded Nefi Perez to the Reds today for Jay Bruce and a player to be named later..

Was that a game-worn jersey?
If it is, it might be the one he wore when he hit the HR in 1998 that forced the tiebreaker game.

If so, that's a major part of Cubs history and lore.

unfortunately, I think its just a jersey he signed....I don't think its game worn.

Just like that he is erased from Fox Sports transactions page!

thanks for the update...though I really would have enjoyed watching Neifi's steroid void body flourish out west.

Dreaded alternate blue top Jerseys
MY absolute least all time Cubs jersey. That stupid big bear logo with the nauseating cap with the red bill.

I hope they don't bring them back. If they bring back any road jerseys, bring back the pinstriped powder blue uni's circa 70's.

The 70's road jerseys?
Hate 'em. Hate, hate, hate. They look like pajama tops.

I don't like the recent blue alternates, either. With uniforms, I'm a real traditionalist. White or pinstripes at home, gray on the road. Period.

Yes
Plus, if they are going to come up with an alternative jersey, make it a NEW alternative, not some old, rehashed alternative, which is no longer considered alternative. I realize that would open it up to a potentially worse non-traditional jersey, but if the point is to spice things up once in a while - don't use Old Spice -- or something.

a Pittsburghesque type sleeveless getup that inspires one to think that the organization went shopping at the goodwill and is taking patchworking classes (beginner classes of course).

The greys are SUPER BORING!
I was glad when the starting pitchers chose the blues over the greys. Zzzzz on the grey. I actually like the blue alternates. I mean, what happened to blue actually being a main color on the unis? I also love the powder blue/white pins jersey--have an authentic Buckner version from 79 f those. Love it, At least we don't have the TERRIBLE script Cubs jerseys from the 90's--now those *defined* hideousness!

50s style greys
were nice, i agree these greys are pretty boring, i think they were even worse though in the early 90s.

16"? 12"?
Those blue jerseys are softball uniforms.  Tolerable on the road, HATE them at home.

For all the tradition that we talk about, look at the Yankees -- same uni's for 60 years.

by Shanghai Badger on Feb 27, 2008 12:44 PM CST reply actions

60 years?
More like 70 years. 1936 was the first year their uniforms looked exactly as they do today. For a good 15 years before that they had home pinstripes, but without the "NY" logo on them.

Even better
Proof that there's no need to mess with something that works.  I like the continuity.

And hell, all the team does is win.

by Shanghai Badger on Feb 27, 2008 7:17 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed that NO blues at home
I ONLY want to see the Blue pine-strips at home. But I am all for the Cubs getting a new alternative jersey for "some" games. Maybe a redish blue jersey or somthing. Im just tired of the greys

by Kchance on Feb 27, 2008 12:59 PM CST reply actions

"Reddish blue"?
Um, nope. Most of the teams that wear red alternate jerseys look awful in them -- the Braves are the worst example. Only the Reds and Red Sox get away with it because it's their primary team color.

F-it
Keep the road gray. If they want to put a bigger walking cub on it, fine but keep things as is.

Keep the home whites in pinstripes. They almost glow for the night games.

I love the retro uniforms days...
...there should be more of them, I cant remember the Cubs doing one?

The blue jersey for home games was awful and needs to stay in the clubhouse..

I'm
probably in the minority but I'd like to see the Cubs turn their navy spring training jerseys into the alternate uni's. i agree that the blue alternates, especially the hats that go with them, are ugly.

by jazzypete on Feb 27, 2008 4:18 PM CST reply actions

The Cubs don't wear....
... navy blue any more. The new ST (and batting practice) jerseys, unveiled last year, are the regular more royal-blue color with red and white panels on the sides.

They look like this:

I still don't like that as a game jersey.

Ugh
That is ugly. I still vote for navy for the alternate jersey.

Love the '70s style...
powder blue & white pinstripe combo.  Maybe the new alternate jersey could use that sleeve patch as the new main logo.
