Back end of the rotation

Yes, we all know Lou's going to figure this whole mess out in the next few weeks, but just for fun, what do the members of BCB think about the situation? Who should fill the last two spots of the rotation?

My vote is for Lieber and Marshall. Marquis can't pitch, and as of late has proven he isn't much of a clubhouse guy either. Dempster, unless he absolutely knocks the socks of everyone in Arizona, seems far too unreliable, a Marquis Part Two, if you will.

What sayeth you?

Dempster will originally win
I see Dempster pulling a similar thing to what Wade Miller did last year.  Dempster I think will have a solid Spring, solid enough to get Lou's approval to start.  Within 5 starts Lou will second guess his decision.

Marshall will be the 5th starter by June 1st...  That's my guess.

yeah dempsters in
we'll see how long that lasts.  i think he may be a league average starter, if not you have marshall to call up.  id like to see marshall go a full year without injury concerns though, and hopefully slot him into the rotation next year.  right now, he just makes a great security blanket.  start him at iowa.

I think
who ever pitches the best this spring will get the spots.  There's no hidden agenda with Lou.  The one who gives them the best chance to win plays.  We can all keep speculating if you want though.  Or we can leave that for the Reds' fans to do now.

That's right, and...
... if Marquis had kept his mouth shut and pitched well in his next outing, he'd have had as good a chance as anyone. But by spouting off, he pissed off Lou -- and we know now that's the quickest way off this team.

Which is as it should be.

Rotation
I know the rotation is flexible in the early going because of the days off, but we have to consider what we already know when considering who will make the roster:
  1. Z (R)
  2. Lilly (L)
  3. Open
  4. Hill (L)
  5. Open
I find it very difficult for Marshall to fit this rotation.  Putting him behind Hill does exactly the same thing as putting Hill behind Lilly, which Lou has said he doesn't want to do.  Hill and Marshall are both big lefties with big curveballs, except Hill's is better, and his fastball is better.  The more I look at it, the more I think it's gonna be Demp and Lieber, with the better of the two in ST getting the 3rd slot.  If either of them have trouble, I think it opens the door for Gallagher or Hart, but not for Marshall.

This makes Marquis' comments all the more perplexing.  He really only has to beat out one of  Demp and Lieber to make the rotation.

Am I alone in feeling this way?
