turk wendell's post-baseball life

Sorry, I had to post this.

http://wykotaranch.com/default.aspx

Turk Wendell now runs a hunting camp up in Colorado.  I'm almost willing to throw down the ridiculous amount of money he asks for just to hang out with Turk for a few days and maybe shoot a buffalo or two.

Any word on what Kevin Orie is up to nowadays??

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I wouldn't have expected that from Wendell.
I got an autographed ball from him in spring training one year -- thinking he was going to be the Next Great Closer. Oh, well.

About Orie, I googled around and found that he was still playing in the Houston organization as recently as 2006. Nothing about him since then, though.

Turk
I thought I posted about this a couple of months ago because an internet friend emailed me after her husband went there to tell me about it knowing I'm a Cubs fan.

They say it's a real nice place and Turk is a heck of a guy.

One year at the Cubs convention a small group of fans sat in the lobby at the hotel and talked baseball and hunting with him from 1-3 am.

If you read this please include my friend Heather and my friend's mom Karen in your prayers. If you want to hear more email me.

Turk and Remlinger in Iraq
Turk and Mike Remlinger visited the troops in Iraq last October. One of my friends is a huge Cubs fan serving in Baghdad and had this to say in an email to me about meeting them;

"I just got done fishing with Mike Remlinger and Turk Wendell.  They are over here on a morale thing signing autographs and talking to the troops.  Pretty good guys.  I was reminiscing with Remlinger about the 03 blow up the cubs had.  He looked me in the eye and said they should have won the World Series that year.  I told him no shit."

My buddy is due to return in early May, I have bleachers for the Arizona series for us to celebrate...

Lol
I love the reaction to Remlinger's comment. That kills me.

I went to a VERY small high school (graduated with 15 people), and one of my classmates---who I also roomed w/through most of college---is in Iraq right now. I miss talking baseball and fishing with him.

FWIW
Judging only from the Web site, it looks like Turk takes ethical hunting very seriously and they're very concerned with what they hunt and how they do it. If they back up what they have written here, they do an exceptional job of animal management.

I'd be interested to see if the animals have open range or if there's a high fence around the location, but this appears to be one of the best examples of fair chase you could ask for from a guide service.

Random Towel story
I went on the tour of Wrigley and when in the locker room my Dad dissapeared for a second.  Turns out he was stealing me an official towel.  Its just a small hand towel with the logo but it was cool to be authentic.

Moral of the story, the Cubs have been robbing us for years, now were even.  ---tear tear

Now...
... you have to bring that towel to a game when SD is in town and see if you can get The Former Employee to sign it.
