Keep It Wrigley
Some of you may have already seen this, but its news to me and I just scowered the site to see if it has been posted... Nothing so far. www.keepitwrigley.org is a site for Cub fans to come on and do whatever they can to protest the inevitable name change to Wrigley Field. Probably won't do much, but there is such a thing as power in numbers. Check it out, sign up and voice your opinion.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

So sorry...
...but you might want to check your scowering pad. There was a fanpost on this very topic posted about 9 hours ago.

Must have missed it
Does this new site have a keyword search function? That could come in handy for someone like myself. Always a day late and a dollar short :)

Well....
... I know they are working on improving the search function.
In the meantime I would ask everyone to title their FanPosts with what's inside, because that will make it way easier for people to scan the list and see what's been recently posted.

Guess I'll chime in again.
I just don't care what they call the place. It will still be Wrigley Field to me; a different name slapped on the marquee does not change in any way my experience in going to watch a baseball game.
In fact, since I always come in through the bleacher entrance, I almost never see the Clark & Addison marquee when I go there. It's entirely possible I could go through an entire season and never see the corporate name once.

Al, I don't know how you do it
For the Chicago foreigner like me, the Clark and Addison Marquee is one of the thing I insist on seeing whenever I go to a game. At the VERY least, I have to travel down the red line and see the back of the scoreboard... though even that can't really happen anymore ever since last season's construction.

I dunno...
.... I guess it's because I live in Chicago and I see it from time to time just driving around the city running errands, etc.
On gamedays I just go to the bleacher entrance.

Understood
And I know exactly what you mean... living just miles away, it's not the same deal to you as it is to those of us who only get to visit Cubs Mecca once or twice a year.

I have to see it
everytime I come stumbling out of Cubbie Bear after a rad Wedding Banned show. If I stumble out of Cubbie Bear at 2am and see a giant AT&T logo I'll be sick. Its bad enough I have to see that giant Taco Bell sign to the left. haha
I'm drunk......and it shows.....

I don't follow
The taco bell sign looming over the freeway for me and many others is a sign of SWEET, FOOD!!!!! when stumbling out of bars at 2 in the morning :)

yea but..
you've seen that Taco Bell sign next to Cubbie Bear haven't you? Its 20 feet tall and makes you crazy when you see it. And it has a huge Cubs hat on it. It's like bad drugs!

This out of towner agrees.
I haven't really read a lot about the details of Wrigley being a historic site, but is there a chance that the marquee itself is protected from change? Like if it were to be Charmin Stadium, maybe they would have to construct a new seperate sign to go above or below the marquee? I am no fan of a Wrigley name change and if it is avoidable, I am all for that, but I will adjust when/if it happens. However it would be extra sad if they start desecrating things as sacred as the marquee.

I dont know.
Wrigley is a historic landmark by rule but there is a clause in that historic landmark rule that says you can change a landmark to maintain or improve. Thats how they were able to add the 70 new seats by the leftfield bullpen. I'm sure the $200 million sale of the naming rights would be an 'improvement'.

Call me cynical...
...but I just don't think the megacorporation that finally lays claim to the naming rights is going to give a rat's furry ass about some virtual petition making the rounds on the Interweb. I think whatever's going to happen is going to happen. The only real power we Cubs fans have is doing just what Al said -- calling the place Wrigley Field until our voices give out and we're ushered into the great skybox in the, um, sky.
I'm also counting on the fact that no businessperson in his or her right mind is going to banish the words "Wrigley Field" from the name. Those words denote an internationally known tourist destination -- and one only made more famous by the acquisition of one Kosuke Fukudome. It would be throwing away money to confuse the world travellers who flock to the ballpark every summer.

Agreed completely
However, according to legend, once we are ushered to the great skybox in the sky, doesn't it go something like this?
He whispered, "Don't Cry, we'll meet by and by near the Heavenly Hall of Fame
He said, "I've got season's tickets to watch the Angels now,
So its just what I'm going to do
He said, "but you the living, you're stuck here with the Cubs,
So its me that feels sorry for you!"

How much would naming rights cost?
Can BCB scrounge up a few hundred million to make it Wrigley forever? I'd pay at least $100 if I could assure it'd stay that way. Not that I'll bother to learn the new name. Like Comiskey Park.

KEEP IT WRIGLEY
To me I feel like I need to do everything in my power to make sure that marquee doesn't change because to me Wrigley is more than a name. Keepitwrigley.org also has a myspace page and they are asking for $1 donations to buy t-shirts, stickers, etc.
