Yeah, this is punchtacular!

I still run into White Sux fans
and they always bring up Barrett's "sucker" punch. I always reply what's his face deserved it.
Sadly, it was probably the best thing Barrett ever did for the Cubs other than melting down and getting his butt kicked by Zambrano and then traded lol

Yes!
I love it. I was lucky enough to see that unfold. (on tv)
At that point in my life i usually listened on the radio while at work. I happened to have that day off. It made me very excited.
Why is Barrett a bad guy?
Barretts stock went way up with me. AJ got what his whiny ass deserved.
So why is it most Cubs fans look down on Barrett?
I liked him while he was a cub.
I liked him too
I think people are still bitter about his meltdown [performance and behavior wise] last season, though we really shouldn't be as it helped kick-start the summer in style.

Actually I really liked Barrett.
I got a #8 jersey a couple years ago, and then he got traded. It had no name on it as the Cubs were not using names on home jerseys.
I may have mentioned this before, but i am thinking about getting Quade's name on it now. I bet I would be the only person in Chicago with one of those other than Quade himself.
Damn Nutrisystem...I'm freakin dyin for some Italian beef!

I like Barrett
And the Quade jersey would be money!
I'm drunk......and it shows.....

I can think
of a much more deserving name to put on a number 8 jersey.

re: Why is Barrett a bad guy?
Well, to answer your question, I'd say many Cubs fans look down on Michael Barrett because he was not a particularly good defensive catcher and he appeared to lack a critical element of any catcher's game: "baseball intelligence." (See also: Ronnie Cedeno, whom I realize isn't a catcher but who suffers under a similiar perception by fans.)
Up until last season, Michael did wield a pretty strong, dependable bat. When his offensive numbers dropped, however, he pretty much lost all value to the team. And, moreover, when his in-game blunders drove Big Z's fist into Barrett's face, it was time for him to go.
I must admit, going into the '07 season, I identified myself as a Michael Barrett fan. I loved his bat and his gritty style of play. Did he go too far in punching A.J. in the face? Yeah, I think he did -- and Michael admitted as much afterward. However, I still support the motivation behind what he did. Sometimes showboats like Pierzynski who like to play mind games with other teams need to be put in their place.

Didn't see it live
I didn't get too see it live but it was on my birthday. I consider it Michael Barrets present to me.
My dearest Barrett
I still miss his blue eyes and scrappiness. He wasn't as bad as everyone made him out to be at the end of his time as a Cub. It was piss poor timing for him to have a slump and mouth off to the team's star pitcher. Soto is helping me heal and warming my heart though :-)
Geovany Soto you're my Hero
word
I was in a bar the night of the Padres-Rockies game, and when Holliday slid into home plate I thought "Oh wow, it would suck to be that ca-- oh crap, is that Barrett?... Oh man. It is." I felt bad for him. Lousy way to end a lousy season. :-/

Barrett is a nice guy
I love how people somehow attribute play on the field to what type of person someone is... etc.
Barrett was involved in the Chicago community while he was here and he really enjoyed being a Cub. I think we should keep that in mind when thinking of him.
Nice guy but....
I hated to see a ball low and away in the dirt with runners on base with him in a close game......... one too many pass balls for my taste....
I liked barrett a lot - still have the bobblehead
which incidentally was given out a week or so after he was traded. Here's a video which illustrates why I liked him as much as I did, bad defense regardless:
