Everybody's Favorite---- Dusty Baker

Tim over at mlbtraderumors.com does a wonderful recap of several blogs that cover the Reds.  This my first new topic so you see I thought was very good.  I can feel their pain when they are wondering why Corey Patterson is batting leadoff and Jay Bruce is in AAA.  It's at www.mlbtraderumors.com.

Enjoy!

You knew this would happen

when Dusty brought Corey in. Bruce was doomed. In Dusty's defense, Corey is hitting the cover off the ball, but that's nothing new. He did the same over here during ST, then the season would start and we'd watch pitcher after pitcher toss eye-high fastballs past the swing-o-matic Corey.

The way I see it, he's only doing a favor to the rest of the division by putting Corey in the lineup.

Bigger favor

if he ends up batting him lead off. I mean really, what is his OBP? Life time it has to be in the low .300's.

Career OBP = .298

Career leadoff OBP = .299! Hey...maybe Dusty does know something!

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

3rd place if they're lucky...

didn't someone mention to Dusty when they offered him the job that rebuilding involves using at least 1 player under 30 in the lineup?

much as i dislike Tony La Russa as a person, his proven managing skills makes me think the Cardinals aren't going to suck quite so badly this year... and Dusty Baker's completely inability to admit the game's changed just a bit since he played makes me think the Reds are gonna crash and burn.

re: See you April 16 Corey

Will this be KPat's first appearance at Wrigley since he left the Cubs? Offhand, I don't recall the Orioles coming to town in the last couple years.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 Chicago Cubs starting outfield: Soriano-Pie-Fukudome. Let it be.

This is just the beginning.

I predict:

Joey Votto will be sent down soon, Adam Dunn will be installed as the everyday 1B, opening up LF for one Todd Hollandsworth.

Here come all the Dusty hates rookies posts

Jay Bruce will turn 21 in a few weeks. He has about 250 AB's between AA and AAA. His spring line was .262/.279/.286.

Baker was brought in to win now. Both Freel and Patterson have had good springs. This is a similar position to Piniella and Pie last year. I bet most managers would have sent Bruce down to start the season.

If you or Dusty

think that Cincy can win now with 1.) the utter wreck of a bullpen (now with more Kent Mercker!) they have, and 2.) with Corey Patterson anywhere near the top of the lineup, you're terribly mistaken. Dusty is doing what Dusty does, and that's stock his team with Dusty's guys. Don't be surprised if Dunn really is moved to 1B to open a spot for Barry Bonds. Now, granted Dusty may think these guys give him the best chance to win now, and therefore he really is trying to win now, but he's just plain wrong.

Winning now

I'm not saying the Reds can win but I don't think Dusty took the job to rebuild. If Cordero holds up, their bullpen will be alright with Weathers and Burton behind him. A little weak from the left side though.

Their rotation however, that's the train wreck.

by rlpete on Mar 21, 2008 2:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed.

That rotation, past Harang is a big question mark in Homer Bailey, a pile of mediocre in Bronson Arroyo and then????, but there's a bright young prospect there named Johnny Cueto who's been impressive thus far this spring. If he and Bailey pitch to form, and Harang does his usual, the Reds could be good at the top of the rotation, but I think that bullpen is just awful. Cordero is going to regress in that bandbox, and Weathers and Burton are average, imo. This is why I see the Reds eventually demoting Votto, placing Dunn at 1B and signing Bonds, because I think even Dusty realizes they're going to have to slug their way to wins at home.

I got to listen to Mark Patrick

playing the blowhard role IMO, justify Bruce going down. A brief second did he mention Dusty's habit of utilizing only vets when there may be a plethera of young talent.

I dislike XM people more and more every day. Oh yeah, Dusty's a GD moron too!

Damn Nutrisystem...I'm freakin dyin for some Italian beef!
