What Should Our Championship Song Be?

When we win the World Series, what should our championship song be? The white sox used a great song by a lame band, "Don't stop believing"  we need to top that I am personally all for "Born To Run" by Bruce Springsteen.....your thoughts

My vote would be...

Song: Finally
Artist: Peniston, Ce Ce

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I've got to second that

Let's just friggin win! Who cares what song they play... we'd be screaming too loud to hear it anyway!

Ed Lynch is STILL on the Cubs payroll, as our D-Backs scout in Phoenix. Lynch attends all 81 D-Back home games with a notepad in hand. Really paid off for us!

We have a song already

They play it during the 7th inning stretch.

by Cajuncub on Mar 24, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

No, I think you mean...

... after wins. Right? You wouldn't want them playing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" after a championship, would you?

I vote...

Twist and Shout, performed by Mathew Broderick lip-synching John Lennon during the victory parade on a float with young women in laderhosen, only Alan Ruck can't come, because of that Gordie Howe jersey.

by jbertram on Mar 24, 2008 3:20 PM CDT reply actions

yep

The version Matthew Broderick lip-syncs to is the Beatles version of "Twist and Shout". John Lennon has lead vocals on that song.

by bikemonkey on Mar 24, 2008 5:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Sorry

The Beatles released the song on their first UK album, Please Please Me. The recording session for that album was their first album session, and is notable for eleven songs having been recorded in a mere 10 hours. Twist and Shout was the last song recorded; producer George Martin knew John Lennon's voice would suffer from the performance, so he left it until last, with only 15 minutes of scheduled recording time remaining for the album.

Simple

The one and only song should be Go Cubs Go followed by We Are the Champions.

And if you read the words to We Are the Champions some of it could have been specifically written for the Cubs.

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

"We Are the Champions"

has been played to death. If Freddie Mercury were still alive, he'd probably disown it. My vote would be "These Are Days" by 10,000 Maniacs.

"My bed is pulling me, gravity, daysleeper. Daaaysleeper."

by markleonette on Mar 24, 2008 7:55 PM CDT up reply actions

I kind of agree

But I've waited my whole freaking life to sing this song for the Cubs and when our time comes I will sing it singing it probably with tears streaming down my face but I'll be singing it. Can you imagine 40,000 people singing together with confetti everywhere fireworks going off etc.

I got a little verklempt. Discuss among yourselves. Does the first base coach really stand there to make sure runners don't run straight into right field instead of making a turn?

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

I dont know about this

but I have a license plates on my car I'd love to replace if we end up playing a championship song.

I'm drunk......and it shows.....

Ok

If I'm being forced to give my vote before the damn season starts I'll choose

"99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall."

I'm drunk......and it shows.....

A great song

A great song for a playoff run is "These Are the Days" by Van Morrison.

These are the days of the endless summer
These are the days the time is now
There is no past there's only the future
there's only here there's only now

I won't post the whole song here but there's one line that fits perfectly to a playoff run of a season that starts in April

"The fires of spring are kindling bright"

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

by puckishcubsfan on Mar 24, 2008 8:25 PM CDT reply actions

And of course

Keeping the Dream Alive.

The first time I heard it was after the Cubs clinched in 1989 on a special and I honestly thought it was WRITTEN FOR THE CUBS that year.

The refrain is

The hopes we had were much too high
way out of reach but we had to try
the game will never be over
cause we're keeping the dream alive.

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

by puckishcubsfan on Mar 24, 2008 8:26 PM CDT reply actions

How about ?

"Its the end of the world as we know it
Its the end of the world as we know it
Its the end of the world as we know it
and I feel fine!"

GO CUBS!

I think my favorite uncle was Uncle Caveman. We called him that because he lived in a cave and would eat one of us. We then realized he was a bear.

"a great song"???

Don't Stop Believing is a great song? I don't think so. Well, at least you got the "lame band" part right.

If/when the Cubs win it all, it's going to be a classic win by a classic team from a classic city and hopefully in a classic park in front of classic fans. Ergo, my choice for a championship song would be from the quintessential classic rock genre...

"Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who

...but only if Len & Bob get to play along onstage! ;-)

Lou Brown: "My kinda team, Charlie, my kinda team..."

"Winning It All"

This was always played as a montage by NBC when the Bulls were winning championships, and they also played it at Wrigley after the Cubs clinched the 1-game playoff in 1998. Of course, we all know just how close we came to winning it all that year.

Personally, I like "The Waiting" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I love the scene in "Chasing October" where they play that song and are celebrating in Murphy's Bleachers (I think it was there) after clinching in 2003.

"You take it on faith, you take it to the heart.
The waiting is the hardest part."

"Don't complain to me about the stormy weather, boys. Just bring the ship into port." --Steve Stone, September 2004
