You can see...

... all the new bullpen seats are in, and the location of the bullpen.

What you can't tell for sure

is whether or not the "hill" for the mound starts in fair territory, like it did on the old field. From this low-res webcam, it looks like it doesn't, which would be good.

They look nice. I assume the bench out there is behind that angle by the plate. Do any of the Cub pitchers throw a sidearm fastball? LOOK OUT!

Tarp?

Where is the tarp now? It used to be where the new seats are, where did they put it now?

by cubsscoop on Mar 30, 2008 2:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Here's a photo of the tarp location.

Wouldn't surprise me if it stayed there

There's more room down that line.

Hey, this should keep that ugly Van Kampen Investments tarp cover out of my line of sight this year! Awesome! =D

by gjdow on Mar 30, 2008 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Was talking to a member of the grounds crew today

and it was his understanding that the tarp will stay on the 1B side. Of course, this makes it tougher on the grounds crew. Their "staging" area is down the left field line through those doors in the corner, so whenever they have to make a tarp run, they have to go clear across the field now. They were going over all the details today in case they have to do it for real tomorrow. Which I guess means they were going through a...

[wait for it]

"dry run".

Thank you, thank you. You've been a wonderful audience. I'll be here all week.

I hope this bad rain goes north of the city. The forecast went from T-Storms to cloudy to rain at 1pm. Now it looks like lite rain and the heavy stuff wont hit til the game is over.

After All These Years

I still feel the exhilaration, the anticipation, expectation and hope of a new season. As I say every year, maybe this is it. Maybe they'll carry it all the way through to a title. Hope springs eternal today. I just need to remember that the season is a marathon, not a sprint. I know there will be many bone-headed plays; there will be many managerial decisions to second guess; there will be losses and worry and despair. I know these things but I can never really prepare for them. I know too there will be many great moments; great pitching performances; web gems in the field; clutch hits and euphoria. Oh crap, I think I'll start checking out my PPO list for good shrinks. Here we go again. Go Cubbies. Welcome to 2008!

And so it goes.

Weather forecast?

What kind of conditions are we getting tomorrow? I hate getting all jacked up and excited, and then it rains or snows and the game is postponed. Other days I can get through it - opening day is a lot harder.

The Boys are Back In Town

Thing is I really didn't have to change much to adapt this for the situation.

Guess who just got back today?
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed all that much, now games to play
But man, I think this is going to be crazy

They were asking when the fans would come around
Tomorrow they'd come and could be found
coming from north side, suburbs and downtown
Ready to go crazy

The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
I said
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town

You know the fans want to dance a lot
Every night and day fwhen you show us what they got
Man I'll tell you they're going to be playing so hot
yes this team is going to be steaming

This once used to be Johnny's place
But Lou came in and took us through the race
Now the fans are ready to shake up the park
Ready to go crazy

The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
I said
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town

Spread the word around
Guess who's back in town

You spread the word around

Tomorrow afternoon they'll be dressed to kill
Ready to play and give us thrill
The drink will flow in the stands and some will spelll
And if the boys want to fight, you'd better let them

That organ in the stands blasting out my favorite song
The nights are getting warmer, it won't be long
Won't be long till summer comes
Now that the boys are here again

The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
Spread the word around
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town

(whispered) The boy's are back, the boys are back

(sung) The boy's are back in town again
Been hangin' down at Wrigley
The boy's are back in town again

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

Is this the song that won the contest? Or was it 'Takin care of business'?

by Keystone80435 on Mar 30, 2008 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think

I think Taking Care of Business won.

Here's a song I always sing on opening day that doesn't have to be changed

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

My Sox fan friend heard on the radio that they were working out on the field (Yes I lunched with a Sox fan today forgive me)

She said "RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!"

nope

Cubs only hit three out and I got skunked on those. But the Brewers were berry berry good to me - they hit four out and I managed to snag three of them. Hope Al brings his glove - Brewers seem to be dead pull hitters.
