Fukudome is impressive
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game but Fukudome's box score speaks for itself. The numbers aren't just impressive, but the fact that he put them up on his first game in Chicago with the entire country of Japan, not to mention the Chicago press, watching him. Very impressive. I'm definitely looking forward to watching him this season. Looks like I'm not the only one with Fukudome Fever, my brother in-law sent me this link. www.fukudomeIsMyHomie.com. Pretty funny, I'm actually planning on wearing one to a game and sitting in right field.

Dome
is, officially, THE MAN...it is too bad that he and Z had to do it all today. I really feel Lou hurt the team today by batting riot/sori 1-2 as they went 0-10, and by bringing in woody in a tie game in the 9th. Not to mention pinch-hitting fontenot.
At least he got Dome at 5th right, though - tough loss.
Soriano a lo profuuundo-NO-NO-NO-NO! (Spanish for "Soriano hits a home run!)
Hackers at the top of the lineup = bad
But it's really not fair to fault Lou for Kerry having one of his infamous bursts of beanball. He's been doing that since forever.
Walking Fielder may have been a mistake, in that it opened the door to a bigger inning, but that "hit" by Braun was pretty weak as far as hits go.
The thing I cant stand about Theriot
Is that he a little guy with no power at all, his job is to get on base. I never see him bunt and he swings early in the count, IMO 9/10 at bats he should be taking a strike-no matter what.

You should have been there!
What a welcome and what a performance for his first game. Makes the loss almost feel alright.
Calm down.
It really does
I came home from work in the bottom of the 7th so I missed most the game, but seeing Fukudome with that 3-run HR and play well in other parts in the game didn't make this loss seem to bad.
Good game, bad result
Just got up and checked box score, watched the game summary on satellite TV...
Dome showed some of his clutch, that's what I'm used to watch here, but sorry it couldn't be a winning run.
Hope Cubs can nail down a win in the next game.
We still miss him, but today's game will be nationally televized tonight on NHK here. Will looking forward to it.
Thanks for posting again...
... was wondering what happened to you!
I imagine fans in Japan will be thrilled to see Dome's dramatic HR. Let us know if you hear any reaction from people there.

well
We really sorry it couldn't be a win in the opening game. All the media and fans are talking about it.
But unfortunatelly "Guzen Dazo" are on top of the spreading words.....it cooled off good part of our excitement on his homer.... So I want see his clutch in winning game, with correct and suitable messages in Japanese....

Request:
I'm assuming they're using their own announcers for that, right? Could you post a brief overview of what they say about Kosuke, and the Cubs in general? I'm extremely curious. Thank you!

Yes, they has an voiceover commentators here - I did hear all the kudos to Dome throughout the program... One notable thing is commentator Motonishi said was he was not just jumping on the first pitch at bat but he knows those pitchers will throw fastball first...

I thought Dome had excellent AB all day.
Hope this continues.

I am so excited for you all to see
his heroics back home. He is such a great baseball player and I kept saying, Hendry is just kicking back and loving that he looks like an absolute GENIUS for this pickup. I say he is. We really gotta get the "DOME! DOME!" chant going that I heard them doing in Japan when he produced for the team.
I am so excited about this season of Dome.
Calm down.
Loving my man Fuku
Great start for him. I've got the fever too, started a "haiku-a-day" blog for Fuku this year.
Hopefully it'll be a fun way to look back on a successful season!

well if he continues on his current pace
He will break the single season home run record, doubles record, and single record.

project based on today's results.
0-162 would be historic, though.

There going to challenge...
...Fukudome for a while and make him show that he will hurt you. He sat on that 3-1 fastball like a lion seeking his prey and jumped all over it.
Lou has got to get this guy in the 2-hole ASAP to give him more AB's and to also offset some of the mediocre OBP I think we will see from Theriot.

And put Soriano where?
All the folks that think Soriano can bat anywhere but 1-2 or maybe 3 are crazy.
You think Sori strikes out a lot now? Wait until he gets dropped to 5th and never sees a pitch to hit.

Hmmm...
I like it. Would it go something like this?

The poster of this FanPost is a liar.
Above, he writes:

I usually try to keep away from profanity, but that's pure bullshit. Click on his link and click on "Contact us" at the bottom (it's really small and hard to read).

Kinda figured
The text did sound a bit hoky.
Even though, well, Fukudome IS impressive.

Oh! Busted!
Anytime someone is like, "Hey guys, my so-and-so just sent me this really awesome website!" you know it bullshit. How many times have you received a merchandising website from a friend, family member or loved and said, "Hey, I really need to spread the word about this to BCB!"
Probably Never
Kudos for banning this person Al, they are in the same vein as telemarketers as far as I am concerned

Good riddance to another "Spamposter."
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 Chicago Cubs starting outfield: Soriano-Pie-Fukudome. Let it be.
Those shirts suck anyway!
Good riddance indeed!

So...
....we again do the samething; and that is make sure one player is in the right spot so he can produce the best stats? I say, you assemble the lineup for the betterment of the team, not one player. And no, making sure one player will have the best stats they can, is not what is best for the team.
I also beg to differ on Soriano completely tanking if he is not in the 1 or 2 hole. The man has talent, and will adjust if everyone would just relax and let him do what he does best, and that is to be a slugger.

no...
You capitalize on your players' strengths, and minimize their faults.
We've seen Soriano hack away in the one ABSOLUTE spot you don't hack away in: leadoff. At least at leadoff you see pitches. He'll hack away at nothing with no one behind him.

What's NOT to like about his performance today?
Fukudome: 3 hits, 3 RBIs
Rest of team: 2 hits, 0 RBIs.
haha.
I'm not sure what that says more: Fukudome is good, or the rest of the Cubs were awful.

Looks great....
...but I cannot wear these T-shirt in my hometown in Okinawa... for the same reason that Nissan could not sell their best selling car named "Homy".....
I was almost...
...more impressed with his double off the CF wall, than I was his homerun.
When he first hit the double, I knew it was a line drive and I was hoping it would land in front of the center fielder for a hit. When it carried over his head, I was amazed. My point is this; he puts a tremendous amount of backspin on the ball, which means the ball will carry very well in the air. I have a feeling, he will end up with a few more homeruns than I thought, and should have quite a few to left field with the wind blowing out.
