Headed to Kauffman

Hey Everyone-

I'm headed to Kansas City this weekend and I am hoping to take in a Royal's game (probably Saturday night...)  I have never been to Kauffman Stadium before and was hoping that some of you might have some advice or words of wisdom for me..Where should I try to sit?  How do they sell bleacher tickets?  I have heard good things about the stadium, just don't want to go in blind if I don't have to.  Thanks so much!

Kauffman Stadium doesn't have bleachers.

But I doubt you'll have any trouble finding a good seat.

It's been a while

It's been about 5-6 years since I have been to a game there. When I was younger, my father and I would always get the GA seats on the outfield corners. It's right by the bullpen and you could usually get a ball during BP if you got there right away. I don't think they're GA anymore, not sure.

Yes, they do.

Two years from now, that'll be really nice.

Not many bad...

...seats in that place. Very good sightlines throughout the park, and a nice place to watch a game.

There is also...

apparently a BIlly Butler authentic powder-blue jersey giveaway to the first 20,000 fans...

I was skeptical, but...

Should be awesome...

normally when people ask questions like that

I encourage them to check out the SB nation site for that team. They don't seem to like us over at royal review though. have fun out there. It looks like it'd be a good place to see a game.

You'll have no problem...

...getting great seats on game day. The K is nothing like the mess one goes through to get tickets at Wrigley.

If you like beer, start with the Boulevard Pale Ale. You can't go wrong there. And they have awesome nachos compared to the crap they serve us at Wrigley. You can also get Gates BBQ at the stadium.

In sum, as long as the weather's acceptable, you'll have a great time. - TL

Kauffman

Its been a few years since I've been there, as well, but it is perhaps one of the most underrated ballparks in baseball. From the outside its nothing special, actually quiet industrial and rough but the proposed renovations should go a long way to deal with that. Its really a very comfortable park, especially since I found it to be very similar in feel to the pre-renovated US Cellular park.

I bought tickets day of game, sat 3 rows behind home plate and paid no more than $36. I'm sure its no longer that cheap but it can't be much more than that. Also, it was a Friday night game w/ fire works, which was fantastic.

As has been said, expect a pretty low maintenance experience.

Me too!

I saw a George Brett homer there when I was 6. My dad still kept his scorecard from the game!

I remember

spending more on a beer than a ticket back in college. Outfield corners were always $4, and great seats to watch Bo Jackson gun runners from the warning track. The Westport area is a nice area for carousing after the game, if you're interested.

Went there last year and had a blast

We bought day of game seats for a night game against the Indians and sat about 30 rows from third base, and there were twenty of us. Tickets shouldn't be a problem. The stadium is beautiful. If you dig tail gating you will be in heaven. Arrowhead is right next store and they share a huge parking lot and people grill and drink and play that bag toss game. Really friendly folks even after I told them I was a Cubs fan who was just there with my girlfriend. Have fun!

And after the 6th inning we moved up to sit right behind the dugout.

I was there for the 1980 World Series, Game 4.

If I can find the pics I took then, I'll scan some of them and post them.

As long as.......

you change the photo next to your name, I don't care what you do.

Clemson fans are inescapable. Speaking of Clemson and baseball, we got you guys again last night. At least in baseball, it's been our year thus far.

went to opening day

went to opening day there, the new score board is incredible. Its almost too clear.

Seats will not be an issue, several fans will be selling them at the game. Plus they really dont watch when people move up to the better seats, but the K really has no bad seats. With the weather suppose to be bad, i would try to get something on the third base side (section that have odd numbers are on that side)under the over hang. I wanna say they would be like row LL and back. If the wind is out of the north the first base side really gets it good.

Beers will cost you 6.50 a glass and 7 for a bottle, get the gates BBQ for food, its pretty good for the ball park.

its suppose to be about 40 at game time with a 20 mph wind from the N/NW. Parking will cost 9 bucks but you should be able to get pretty close

HEY PURPLELINETOWRIGLEY...

Lifelong Cubs fan here that just moved to Lawrence, Kansas this past fall to start my PhD. I got a group of six going to Saturday's game, and five going Sunday. Here's what I can tell you so far - I've only been to "The K" twice thus far:

--Saturday's game is Powder Blue Jersey Night, the first 20,000 get an AUTHENTIC Billy Butler jersey. I looked it up, $80. The game has been heavily advertised and I heard on the radio today it is soon to be sold out. Thus, we are going to be there around 1 pm to get the jersey for the 6:10 pm first pitch. The weather looks to be the coldest in the past five or six weeks, about 35-40 degrees, with chance of rain/snow. Pretty damn ugly, considering it was 65 today and will be in the 50s Sunday, and the high 60s this upcoming week.

--Stadium looks damn ugly from the outside, but I think it is gorgeous from inside. All seats are good, and they have a new jumbotron that is supposed to be one of the best in sports.

--We will be tailgating before the game, rain or shine. Want to meet up? I'd like to meet some other BCBers. If so, let me know, or give me your email address. Where do you live?
