This may be the wrong forum -- but I am a die-hard Cubs fan who happens to enjoy Scully. It is so pathetic that, when they are home, I tune in to the Dodgers home games on Extra Innings just to listen to him. Because it is so late (I am in Texas), I go to sleep to it. My wife and kids even know who he is and have come to appreciate him.
I was wondering last night what was it about his broadcast that so interested me. I think part of it is his voice, his delivery, he knowledge of the game, but the other part is that it is just him. Somehow, I feel like he is talking to me. Almost without exception (I cannot think of another), all other broadcasts have the twosome -- analysts and commentator. They end up talking to each other. Scully seems to be talking to me. And he never stops -- he works personal stories without ever missing a pitch. But, it's not hard to follow.
I just wanted to post this to see if anyone else have noticed this. I like Bob and Len alright. I think Brenly is a good analyst (not the most pleasant to voice to listen to). I wish we would have kept Chip Caray (he had a good delivery and voice), but nothing compares to Scully for me. Heck, I don't even like the Dodgers or there year after year of anemic offense. I tune in late after the Cubs have played just to listen. It has become a family thing (kids sneaking up to listen to baseball with dad).
By the way, it is sure nice to see Cubs players take walks. Maybe Fukudome is having a spillover affect to the team.
