Another Mariotti Post

Just when I start to just tolerate the guy again, he goes and writes another article that just pisses me off. I know at this point that we are probably beating a dead horse with the whole Brennaman tirade, but it's pretty bad that someone in our own backyard agrees with and supports him.

Here is a link to the article:

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mariotti/904163,mariotti042008.article

Here is a sample:

But this season, Cubdom has entered the twilight zone. Barely a day passes without a fan making news, and if it's a reflection on society generally wigging out in the 21st century, also understand that Wrigley is supposed to be above such lunacy. It is marketed as a shrine and fan-friendly tourist attraction, yet it's much closer to an raucous beer garden filled with just enough jerks to spoil the reputation of a much larger percentage of good fans. If Sam Zell still wants to sell naming rights, he might try a rehab clinic.

HAHAHA

“Will it ever end? Or is someone else plotting another 15-ball attack?”

Not sure how to do the blue box thing. Can someone tell me?

Highlight the text you want to put in the blue box...

... and then press the quote mark above the text input box. That’ll make it a blockquote.

You missed his point

...and I quote from you and of course from his article:

”...yet it’s much closer to an raucous beer garden filled with just enough jerks to spoil the reputation of a much larger percentage of good fans.”

I refer (tongue in cheek) at times to Wrigley as a 41,230 seat outdoor bar. There’ s a lot of people who go there to just be there. None of us regulars there would ever deny it.

But Jay said point blank, just enough to spoil it for the much larger group of wrong fans.

Just exactly what is wrong with that statement? He’s correct.

IMHO there’s some here the follow Al’s lead on this and I think even Al is overboard on Jay. He’s a COLUMNIST. It is his job to expound on and, drum roll please…create controversy.

You wanna rant, rant about the jackass that ripped on all of Cubs fans the other night.

OOPS a big typo

In my 4th paragraph above, I meant…”But Jay said point blank, just enough to spoil it for the much larger group of GOOD fans.”

The problem with Mariotti's column is...

that he wrote that the “jackass that ripped on all of Cubs fans the other night”, as you rightly called him, was “dead-on” in his criticism. By writing that, Mariotti took Brenneman’s side against all Cub fans, not only against the few unruly ones.

True about Mariotti's job.

However, where I find him to be hypocritical is when he takes a position, then several months later takes the opposite position, pretending the first column never existed.

So true...and the person who has called him out most recently on that

....was Morrisey a few weeks back with his Lord Voldemot column

IMO just priceless…

2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?

Why is he even a writer in Chicago?

It seems like he never has anything productive to say, period. I realize that reporters aren’t really supposed to praise teams they report on but it seems like Mariotti finds every little slip up or miscue just goes off into a massive rant. I can’t even watch a full episode of The Horn without punching my TV.

The guy is an pompous, arrogant idiot that thinks he is the alpha male of sports journalism.

ENOUGH ALREADY!

Exactly.

Here’s Mariotti’s boilerplate:

1. CubDumb, wherein Jay ridicules Cub fans and imbues them with causal powers such that they, the fans, are directly responsible for losses.

2. Ozzie is a jerk, wherein Jay takes his personal vendetta against the White Sox front office and Ozzie Guillen to the pages of a major metropolitan newspaper.

3. Wrecks Grossman, wherein Jay says nothing substantial about football, nor about the Bears, but engages a series of personal attacks against Rex Grossman.

Then, six months later, all these in reverse.
