Mark DeRosa gets it:

"I stayed at home the other night and watched that "Cubs Forever" show," he said. "Every once in a while teams should be forced to watch stuff like that and realize how much it means to the city and to the ex-players that have been here, and how lucky we are to get a chance to put on the uniform and play in front of these people.

"I just got a kick out of how much it would mean to the former players if we were able to do it. Sometimes during the course of the year you hit the dog days and lose sight of the overall goal of what you're playing for.

"Every once in a while, to pop a tape in like that would fire you up. I was watching that thinking, 'Man, it's pretty special playing here.' "

Jon Lieber is about to become the answer to a trivia question:
Which player experienced one team's 10,000th loss and another team's 10,000th victory in back-to-back seasons?

Lieber, of course, was a Phillie last year when they lost for the 10,000th time in franchise history. The Phillies are the only team with 10,000 losses. Tonight, the Cubs could become the second (after the Giants) with 10,000 franchise wins.

A big thank you to the Rockies for moving game time back to 6:35 Mountain time, which makes the start earlier in Chicago. I still remember when most night games in the Midwest started at 8:00 local time instead of 7:00. But those were the days when most games didn't last more than two hours, either.

2008 - Franklin Morales 1-1 3 3 0 0 0 0 15.0 14 11 11 1 11 5 6.60 1.67

There's a pretty good chance, actually, that this game could drag on for a while. Rich Hill is exactly the type of pitcher who pitches poorly in Colorado -- someone who relies on a big breaking curveball, which doesn't break in the thin air of Denver. Hill is 0-2, 11.32 at Coors Field in his career, the only starts he's made against the Rox.

Franklin Morales (he doesn't look too happy in that picture, does he?) hasn't been a paragon of control this season (11 walks in 15 innings), and the Cubs have been patient hitters this year, so perhaps they can get the bases clogged up with runners tonight. Morales is making his first career start against the Cubs.

Check out our SBN Rockies site, Purple Row, for the Rox fan view of this short series.

And unlike yesterday, I have remembered to schedule an overflow thread; it will post at 9 pm CT.

Today's game is on CSN Plus. That's CLTV in Chicago, and different channels on digital cable and satellite, and also at the MLB.com Mediacenter.

I missed that Cubs Forever show

Since WGN is the big reason why I became a Cubs fan, I would love to watch it. Can anyone help me out on where to find it?

Thanks

Hill scares

the heck out of me. Hope he brings his “A” game tonight.

If you have DirecTV it’s on channel 668.

i taped “cubs forever” but have not watched it yet. now i’m gonna have to be sure to make time for it soon….

fyi, all of the rockies home games start at 6:35 local time at the beginning of the season due to the unpredictable weather. even when it is nice out (like today), the weather has a tendency to get a bit chilly once the sun goes down….

i can’t wait! i’m leaving for the game in an hour and i wish it would just hurry up and get here!

DeRo is awesome.

There is a reason why he was the most popular Cub at the Cubs Convention. He definitely “gets it”. In this day and age, when most players have no loyalty to any team they play for, that’s rare, and quite refreshing. I love absolutely love that quote of his.

Yeah, he is really valuable

Loves the city and the whole history of the organization. Even played 1st at the end of the game.
He should get us a good starter when we trade him in July. lol

Well, that's ONE way to cut down on large photos in the game threads.

But you could just ask nicely next time. ;-)

did anyone catch...

...why Hill was pulled. I understood early in the season but it seems Lou is really abusing the bullpen in the name of building confidence in a rotation that should already have it.

Brief change of direction.

Any news, finally, on what the “Alou” sign at the park Tuesday was all about?

Sammy Sosa was at Wrigley Tuesday afternoon, watching the game from the stands. They showed him on TV. Did the fans at the park notice? What was their reaction, if they did?

by Fraggin Judge on Apr 24, 2008 12:09 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That was just a guy

who looked like Sammy. The guys on CSN even commented on how much he looked like Sammy but said it was not Sammy.

DWard Pulled

I was watching the Gamecast…can somebody explain to me why Lou pinch-ran Marquis for Ward? Was he injured?

by NorthStarCubsFan on Apr 24, 2008 12:18 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

cus he is slow.

just wanted some speed on base.

by TJ3117 on Apr 24, 2008 12:24 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Rockies' broadcasters were asking themselves the same question.

Why have tomorrow’s starter pinch run? I guess Ward is a slower runner than Marquis.

Arizona lost

The Cubs are now tied with the best record in baseball.

That wasn't Sosa

It was a guy that looked like Sosa.

Maybe it was A Lou Piniella sign.

cubs forever

favorite moments:
Milt Pappas screaming at umpire after his perfect game was ruined, Milt said he was speaking Greek, but I’m pretty sure of the translation…...
Hank Aaron’s almost HR during Kenny Holtzmans nohitter… Billy was AGAINST the wall and caught it (no basket back then)
I remember listening to Pappas’ nohitter on the radio but never have seen the video for either…....VERY cool

I now know

how an addict feels. I missed you guys last night. Please SBN don’t do this again any time soon.

Really would have liked to have celebrated 10,000 wins with all of you but I’m so happy they have the wins.

Last nights game was a nail biter for sure. This team will not be denied and I love that everyone is contributing.
