Was ANYONE able to watch the game
on Comcast Sports Net Chicago + last night? Because all my tv said was something about not being able to access something vc for 3 (I live in Lafayette)... I have comcast digital cable, so I figured I'd start by troubleshooting my end. First I checked to see if my analog tv could get the channel, it couldn't; then I called my friends and family in town, they couldn't; so finally I called 1-800-COMCAST. That was a mistake. I was on hold for 45 minutes before someone finally took my call, and here's what they said:
"Sorry about the inconvenience, but it's a problem at the broadcast end, we have nothing to do with it."
"But you're the same company, Comcast owns Comcast Cable and Comcast Sports Net Chicago +."
"Well there's nothing we can do about it, we don't make the content, we only send out of the cable lines what they give us. They're not sending us anything."
"How long with this be down? Are we talking days, weeks, months?"
"Um...it'll probably be working tomorrow."
So I ask you, was ANYONE able to watch the game, or was it just my local comcast affiliate that screwed up?
On a side note, I'm this |--| close to canceling my cable all together and going with satellite and DSL. The only thing stopping me is that the phone company is also stupid and makes you pay for the basic land-line phone charge on top of the DSL charge, making it more expensive overall.

It must have been your local affiliate.
It was fine in Chicago on both the regular and HD channels (although, there was no audio on the HD channel for the first few minutes).

Do you guys
have any suggestions on what I can do, besides calling the 800 number and not getting anywhere? This is so frustrating.
Last year I lived about 20 miles further north than I do now (closer to Chicago) and had a different Comcast affiliate. They didn’t list Comcast Sports Net Chicago at all on their package, so when I signed up with them, I asked them if I could get it if I got the sports package (an additional $5 a month for the package, plus another $5 a month for the upgrade from analog to digital). They said “Yes, you sure can.” So I drove the 45 minutes to the closest office (Lafayette didn’t have Comcast yet, they were still on Insight, which was bought out by Comcast this year). I picked the digital box up, went home, and plugged it in. And of course it didn’t work. Instead of getting CSNC, I got CSN, which it turns out is College Sports Network. I called the company and after talking for them for about an hour, they said I should be getting Comcast Sports Net Chicago and that they would send a technician out, in a week. So the week goes by, he finally shows up, and before he even checks my box, he tells me that the actual cable lines going into my house are out of date. So he spends an hour re-cabling my entire house and the patch of cable that goes to the street. At which time he finally comes into my house and turns my box on. “He says, what channel was it you were trying to get?” I tell him, “Comcast Sports Net Chicago.” He doesn’t even turn the box on and he says, “Oh, you can’t get that channel out here.” I reply, “You’ve got to be kidding me, all of that work was for nothing?” And he says, “Well, since you’re such a good sport about it, I won’t charge you for re-cabling your house.” I then say, “Well, at least I can get movies On Demand.” (Because the town we were living in at the time was out in the middle of nowhere and renting movies was a pain in the butt.) And again he says, “Oh, sorry to tell you, but you’re too far out to get anything On Demand.”
Needless to say, I am soooooooo crazy annoyed at Comcast, that I don’t know what to do, and there’s no way to get in contact with the local company because whenever you call the number you are automatically routed to the main office in…wherever it is…Ohio maybe? So what should I do????

Probably get satellite.
Despite the fact that these companies both have “Comcast” in their name, they ARE separate entities.

Is Satellite
...going to help you when MLB blacks out local games, like it does here in Iowa? Just a heads up on that, brother. Good luck.

I have DirecTV
and I live in Iowa. I watched the game last night. I haven’t been blocked out of a game yet. When they are on WCIU only then I won’t be able to watch.

last night
Since the Sox were on the normal CSN HD channel last night the Cub game was on MOJO HD…at least for me on Comcast.

Correct.
That’s Comcast channel 174 in Chicago. They use it for the HD feed when games are on Plus.

Does anyone know
If the Comcast Plus games are available on HD through DirecTV? I get the regular CSN games in HD, as well as the WGN games, but I could not find an HD feed of the plus game (though thankfully I was able to watch the last inning and a half or so on regular CSN in HD after the Sox-Yankees game ended).

I think you were blacked out.
If you were, satellite won’t make a difference. If you weren’t, and the problem was on the satellite feed, getting satellite service won’t make a difference, either.
I’m confused, though. Does Comcast Sports Net cover your area?

Yes, I have regular Comcast Sports Net Chicago
and in years past have had no problems with Comcast Sports Net Chicago +

I just checked the CSN website.
You’re in their coverage area. You get CSN on channel 65 and CSN+ on channel 68. No HD feeds are available in your area.

Yep
but CSNC+ had an error message, and they told me on the phone that it was from the broadcast end, and didn’t have anything to do with the cable company, and that is my frustration….along with all of the other stuff I posted above.

Then it was probably a technical problem.
You’ll know if you are able to watch the next game on CSN.

My issue is with Mediacom...
They refuse to pick up Comcast as a channel in Des Moines, so I’m stuck with Cardinals games on FSN Midwest on mute, while listening to Pat and Ron on the radio.
Mediacom is absolutely Cardinals crazy, which makes no sense at all in a Cubs town like Des Moines. Anyone else want to start a campaign to get Mediacom in Des Moines to start carrying CSN for Cubs games?
I realize that this is off topic, but I had to get this off my chest without clogging up the basepaths with another fanpost.
If you play Defender I could be your hyper-space.

I'm with you
I also live in Des Moines and have to go to the in-laws to watch Cubs games since Mediacom doesn’t carry CSN and we can’t get satellite.

Worst case scenario, use WCIU
thats what I had to do because I don’t have CSN+. CSN AND (another reason I hate the Yankees) ESPN was covering the Yankees/Sox game…Seriously do we need two major affiliates in our area broadcasting the same damn game?

WCIU?
WCIU didn’t carry last night’s game.
