OT:Clemens allegedly had 10-yr affair w/McCready

First heard it over ESPNEWS, but found an article about it as well:

Mindy’s affair with Roger Clemens allegedly began when she was only 15-years-old and he was pitching for the Red Sox at 28. Clemens was married and had two children at the time. Clemens acknowledges the relationship, but, through his lawyer, denies it was ever of a sexual nature.

It bugs me that Clemens is now having rumors that he was with a minor, but doesn't bug me that much that he was having an affair. Honestly, how many other MLB players are cheating on their wives? I don't know, obviously, but I'm guessing it's not that small of a number. What concerns me the most, however, is that he goes through his lawyer to deny messing around with a 15 year old. Wouldn't you flat out deny that by yourself? Someone want to offer some insight on that?

Another OT: does anyone else have a little difficulty quoting when you're trying to FanPost? Man that's annoying.

Lying, cheating scumbag

He’s a prima donna who thinks he is above the rules of baseball, marriage, life in general. His fall shall be a very mighty one. Bigger than Pete Rose in fact.

Agreed, his fall from grace is going straight down

That Doug Glanville article in the NY Times...

... which was linked here a while back (can’t find it right now), explained very well why people like Clemens insulate themselves from real life and really do think that they’re better than the rest of us. People like that - and Barry Bonds, who’s done much the same thing - can come crashing down real fast.

That's pretty much what Glanville said about these guys.

They live these lives for so long that they start believing the lies they’ve woven.

FWIW

and believe Jose Canseco at your own risk, but in one story I read about this it mentioned in passing that Canseco went to great effort to point out that Roger is one of “the few” ballplayers faithful to his wife. Which must mean…...

well, you know.

Well, if you're having trouble...

you could use the “blockquote” tags directly. I’ve never had problems with it.

“See, like so”

As for Clemens, alleged:
rapist
drug user
bully
philanderer

I have no idea what would make that man continue with a defamation of character suit. It’s going to just bury him.

Clemens is...

such an afterthought at this point. Him hiding behind his worthless attorney on all the allegations is kind of amusing and creates more banter for late night TV.

You ARE freaking out MAN!

My first thought

When I saw the post in the sidebar was: “THE TRAINER?” Now that would’ve been a story…. “McNamee & Roger make sweet man-love”

I won't be shocked ....

If Roger Clemens puts a gun to his head in the near term. His behavior, rage and denial on his multitude of transgressions has gone off the deep end. He seems to be getting crazier by the second. This whole sordid affair has the makings of a very tragic ending.

The way things are going

MLB could form its own team of all steroid and criminal rejects and the scary thing…it would be a pretty good team!

Calm down.

Disgusting NY tabloid media.

This issue is none of our business. There’s no accusation, no lawsuit, nothing! Just gossip to attract attention to a singer on her career rebound. And, as NittanyCub wrote, is hard to believe Clemens was the only player having an affair, even if the story is true.

by Fraggin Judge on Apr 28, 2008 6:04 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I might agree IF

It had been anyone other than Clemens and if Clemens had not been the one
to raise his charactor and honesty by filing a defamation lawsuite.

Sorry for the family but the man has been self centered publicity hound all his
career and has paraded his family in the public eye so what goes around comes around.

I was thinking the same thing too

the only reason I put up this FanPost was because it started out as a 28 year-old having a sexual affair with a 15 year-old. That’s unbelievable, and freaking ridiculous. I thought about it too: here’s Clemens, having won (or going on to win) a 3rd Cy Young Award, plays professional baseball for the Boston Red Sox, is getting paid vast amounts of money, is athletic, and he couldn’t find a legal girl to mess around with? He chooses a girl who would be in the 10th grade?? Is this guy insane?

Well...

... yeah, it’s kinda tabloidy, and was in fact first published in a tabloid. Nevertheless, it is a topic of discussion about a major baseball figure. You can draw your own conclusions.

Well I did rush out to buy a Daily News

and the story is fairly detailed for what it is. Daily News is kind of a semi-tabloid. Not total
trash like the Post and a nice sports section. I buy it several days a week ( and they often
give it away near my office). However again the story has some detail and is unlikely to be
dismissed as made up . Clemens’ response through his lawyer that they were in effect
“just good friends” and there was “no sexual relationship” has about as much validity as
” I did not have sex with that woman”
How you feel this should impact a baseball fan’s view of Clemens is up to you but
I don’t think there is that much doubt that it happened.

by Doggie Stalker on Apr 28, 2008 7:23 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I should have put the "If this is true" disclaimer in front

Oh, it might be true.

It was leaked by McNamee’s lawyer to try to smear Clemens’s character (if there is a part left not smeared already). The problem is that they may bring it up in a deposition because legal discovery is very liberal, but I find it hard to believe that a fair judge is going to let this trash enter as evidence in a trial. I think it is a stretch to say that in contemporary society a guy has a tendency to lie on unrelated matters or that he is amoral because he had a mistress. Affairs are so common, especially among famous people and athletes, that is hard to imagine that this would have any value in a trial. Of course, some may disagree and think that is for the jury to decide and that is why McNamee’s lawyers are letting this ball roll.

To me, there are things off limits, even if the affected are public figures. This is one of those stories.

by Fraggin Judge on Apr 28, 2008 11:40 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't think this came from McNamee

The “lady” in question is about to publish a book. You do the math. As for the
case, the judge will almost certainly let them depose her so they can ask her things
like if she ever saw him take steroids, saw zits on his back whatever. It is unlikely
she would become a witness if there is ever a trial ( which I doubt). The thing is
Clemens people trashed McNamee’s charactor ( not hard to do of course) to show
he was a liar in other aspects of his life so what is good for the goose etc.

I will say that one of the ironies in reading the story again, is that Clemens was very
generous and helpful to Miss Mcready with both money and it appears emotional
support. Just can’t trust your friends I guess

Wonder if this is sufficient motivation

for Mrs. Clemens to rat out her philandering hubby.
