We had very little to lose tonight anyway.

Marquis vs. Sheets is a hell of a mismatch. Like to limit the damage and give the offense a shot, but you can’t feel that bad about losing this game. I do think we need a new scouting report on Corey Hart, however. That guy kills us. Oh, and Marquis is not a good pitcher.

Lieber

should have been used in the 4th, when it was obvious Marquis didn’t have it, and the game was still there to be had.

Lou blew this one, along with the pen, and lack of clutch hits.

Soriano should hit 5th. Period.

the thing that upsets me about this game is that i didn't think we were going to win this matchup

And it really wasn’t Marquis. It was a lack of situational hitting – not getting the big inning – as well as poor bullpen pitching.

by razzpunk on Apr 29, 2008 9:51 PM CDT reply actions

Sometimes I just scratch my head.

Most of the Cubs’ pitchers act like they don’t know the importance of getting ahead. Every damn run seems like its because someone fell behind and had to come right over the plate. Also, Lou must have been hitting the Jack before the game. I don’t care if Marquis is a good hitting pitcher. With the bases loaded and two outs, when its clear that Marquis is just hanging around, how the hell do you let him hit. Every run is important.

Its funny, you spend most of your life gripping a baseball. And in the end, its almost always the other way around.

Crummy Cub Pitching

You don’t win games giving up 10 runs! The pitching stinks period.

I hope this puts to rest all the silly World Series talk. This club has a lot that has to go right with their pitching before it can even smell the World Series, much less the playoffs.

Why should I

Prove me wrong, name one team that has ever won a pennant or a World Series that did not have solid starting and relief pitching.

Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it false.

Not quite

I was on this site last year, and believed we could get to the World Series, only to see our usual lousy pitching blow another chance.

Of course the season is not over a whole lot of things happen in a marathon. But, we will not reach the goals we all want unless they either trade for, or bring someone up , who can get the job done.

by Mr W on Apr 29, 2008 10:45 PM CDT up reply actions

That doesn't make sense.

I’m not even sure that a Park Factor covers the difference here; Greene’s home-road splits are much broader than the average hitter, and it may be that Greene is affected more than most players by Petco. Stupid Bill Hall with all those stinkin' L's

This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

Just walked in from work/class

Got to the TV w/ 2 out in the Bot 9th. Bummer. Just read that Sheets walked 7 guys, none of which scored. How does this happen?

Little rant: I take the Metra home and there were about 4 kids (looked like they were in their early 20’s; mind you, I’m 22) all decked out in Cubs gear who sat across from me. Of course, the first words out of my mouth were, ‘Did they win? Score?’ One yells out, Who Cares? I’m drunk. The rest laugh and I don’t get an answer. Even after they settled down, they admitted they didn’t know who was winning and that they left, coincidentally, after the 7th Inning Stretch. Needless to say, these are those ‘obnoxious’ fans Marty was bitchin’ about and also the ones that ruin it for the rest of us. But at the same time, it makes me that much more appreciative to know a site like BCB exists where I can carry a real and civil conversation w/ some of the best fans in the world, even if some of you still live at home in your parents basement.

/Rant over
//Let’s go get em tomorrow
