Remeber When...Greenberg edition
Remember a few years ago when a kid named Adam Greenberg was called up from AA and promptly plunked in the head in his first and what turned out to be his only major league at bat? Sad news yesterday, he was officially released by the Royals. I feel really bad for the kid...never really recovered.

Never recovered?
Is that really the case? Or was he never really a major league prospect? I remember he was very much a long shot heading into that season, and he was only called up to teach Corey Patterson a lesson.
What was really amazing about that was that it wasnt just his only major league at bat. It was his only major league pitch. First pitch ever, all pumped up, and bam..Game over.

Greenberg was basically Sam Fuld.

I'd call...
...going from a decent minor-league player to being released from the Royals farm system as having 'never recovered'...

so would I...
but a minor league .268 career hitter isn't all that "decent" to begin with.
I watched him
last season when he was plying in the Texas League against the Travelers. He actually played pretty well (at AA level) that day. Some guy sitting behind the plate kept yelling "vertigo" when he was at the plate. I thought that was pretty classless.

That's too bad
Whether he was a "real prospect" or not, I wanted to see the guy succeed in baseball...or at least get a ML hit. I'm wishing him well.
bummer.
I gave myself a concussion last January [I'm a klutz], and it was enough damage to detrimentally affect my life for several weeks. I can't imagine what it'd be like to get hit by a pitch in the head and have your entire career jeopardized, even if you're not some huge prospect. I wish him the best of luck in whatever he does now.

I feel sorry for the guy, but i don't think he will ever make it back to the bigs.
Finally!
That's a shame
While he was a longshot to make the majors, he seemed like a good guy. I remember he did a Spring Training or minor league diary a couple of years ago that was well written, so he has some brains to fall back on. Sorry to hear he was released, but if nothing else he'll probably be remembered for a longer time than most guys who only get a little sip of the big league coffee.
