Minor League Wrap--April 29
Short night tonight.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs lost to the Fresno Grizzlies, 4-3.
Starter J. R. Mathes got the loss to fall to 0-2. He pitched five innings and gave up four runs on six hits and two walks. Mathes struck out four. He did go 2 for 2 with the bat--the only multiple hit night for an I-Cub.
Casey McGehee went 1 for 4 with his second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fourth.
Tennessee Smokies
Did whatever people in the Knoxville area do for fun. Probably sang "Rocky Top" over and over again.
Daytona Cubs
Slept in late. Didn't show up at the ballpark. Manager Jody Davis was upset until he realized it was an off-day.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs were transmogrified by the Ft. Wayne Wizards, 3-2.
Hung-Wen Chen started and pitched pretty well for five innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and no walks. Chen struck out four. Zach Ashwood got the loss in relief. Ashwood threw four innings and gave up only one run, but allowed four hits and four walks. He struck out two.
Shortstop Nate Sampson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. First baseman Jovan Rosa went 2 for 4 with a double.

Yeah, finally
He came of a game on April 21 and hadn’t played since. There wasn’t any word as to why he wasn’t playing until today.
He hurt his hand on a swing and has been bothered with what they are calling tendinitis. He went to Chicago yesterday to have it examined. Doesn’t sound like they found anything.

FYI...
... the rumor about Peoria playing a game at Wrigley Field is true. It’ll be vs. Kane County—expect the official announcement tomorrow. The most likely dates are July 29, 30 or 31 (when the Cubs are in Milwaukee).
