Barstoolsports.com says it sucks to be a Cubs fan

Don't know if anybody has seen this. Barstoolsports.com is a pretty amusing and entertaining Boston-based sports blog-publication thing.

But with the increased success of Boston-based teams, they've become insufferable jerks.

This right here made my blood boil.

They're self-pitying, misery-wallowing buffoons who think going 100 years without a championship is some kind of a badge of honor.

It's just ridiculous.

Why it sucks to be a Cubs fan

I would shred it apart right here, but there's not enough space. We going to take this?

Boston = new New York.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, managing editor (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

You know

I was just sitting around wondering what barstoolsports.com was thinking about being a Cubs fan. Along with the guy standing in front of me in the checkout line. And the person driving past my house in the Honda Civic. Might be a woman, but I couldn't tell.

Who cares, folks, who cares? By merely acknowledging their existence, you're validating them.

Every time I see one of these....

... I wonder if the poster is associated with the site. In this case it appears not, but I'd just as soon not see posts like this. They serve no useful purpose.

Definitely not associated

I understand and respect your stance on this Al, but I'm going to defend the spirit of my post. I saw something that agitated me and I wanted to share with people who I thought might care. It's been met with a collective shoulder-shrug, so I'm suddenly less up in arms about the whole thing.
Still, where is said that posts have to serve a useful purpose?

funny this is that

the red sox were in the same boat just a mere 4 years ago, but worst because they had the Eastern Sports Programming Network behind it.

Remember...

The 'Internets' have made any buffoon with a PC and a modem an 'expert.' But remember -- think of how many people this column DOESN'T reach.

It's of little importance. However, it does illustrate how the good blogs stand out, as compared to others. Thankfully, BCB is one of the best blogs in the SB Nation. Just check out some of the others -- you'll see what I mean. More than half of them are poorly written, others are filled with so many stats and graphs and charts it's like an explosion in a mathematics factory. I'm sorry, but immature rantings and geek-head stats just doesn't do it for me.....interesting, passionate discussion DOES, though.

So, a stupid little post such as this one -- not exactly a 'capture' for all time.

Math factory

You wouldn't happen to be referring to the Brewers' SB Nation site, would you? LOL

By the way, you're right. My post is an immature little rant. I saw something that made me mad (I thought it was an unprovoked cheap shot that was not only mean-spirited but just wrong in its characterization) and wanted to share it with friends. This collective shoulder-shrug of sorts from BCB has calmed me down though. I'm better now.
Still though, screw Boston. I stand by that.

by rob9802 on Apr 7, 2008 8:00 AM CDT reply actions

Yeah, I see what you mean.

It was a cheap shot. Best ignored, I'd say.

I don't share your enmity toward Boston. That was just one site -- I don't characterize all Red Sox fans that way. For one, they hate the Yankees. For that alone, I salute them.

Your post isn't an immature rant

I'm referring to the original item under discussion. It's worthless garbage.
For example, I just noticed an item on espn.com. Even they are not above taking a cheap shot -- in a "What have we learned in the first week segment" -- under the Cubs entry -- the only line was "Wait untll the next Century!!" With other teams, the entries ranged from funny to interesting thoughts. But for the Cubs, it's the good ol' rim shot.

Ugh

Can't stand Boston anymore. It's people like this that have turned me into a Yankees fan as far as that rivalry goes.

Oh, lord no.

The Red Sox fans may have become a bit insufferable, but you can't turn over to the dark side.

eh

The Red Sox in many ways are just as bad as the yankees are/were.

Plus the Yankees fans that I am friends with annoy me less than my Red Sox fan friends.

this site

i've been reading barstool off and on for a couple of years. Sometimes they have some funny posts but seeing the Boston fans' reaction to the Red Sox over the past two years has really turned me into an anti-red sox fan. I root against them as if they're the yankees. I also used to root for the Celtics but their fans now expect championships, what with the Patriots and Red Sox.

What's wrong with expecting championships?

We should be so lucky.

Once again

You have people misinterpreting what we Cubs fans stand for, which is people think we like the "loveable losers" label. There is nothing loveable about losing, but we are some of the last true fans in sports who will never abort our team or turn our backs on them when we aren't doing so well. Its unfortunate that this website just reiterates the already bad east coast stereotype

That opinion does not reflect

the majority of Red Sox fans as I know them. I came to Chicago from Boston 15 years ago. My family's soundly ensconced in Red Sox Nation and I can tell you that Red Sox fans feel great affinity for the Cubs -- at least true blue Red Sox fans do. Give Boston the benefit of the doubt and ignore this noob. There's nothing RSN would like more than a Sox/Cubs match.

Thank you.

I'd love that, too.

We should have had that matchup in 2003 or 2004. It's not too late.

I just sent him a nice email.

"Lame.

As you were, I still am a fan of the Boston Red Sox as my secondary team next to the Cubs.

We Cub fans have always rooted for the Red Sox and still do.

There is no reason why we cannot root for one another until we meet in October.

I think it is awesome that you guys have won twice and that the Spankees have not won in spite of their huge payroll....

But be advised...the tables are turning on the Red Sox. Many baseball fans are sick of this new attitude that you guys have. You may just turn into what you hate the most...the Yankees....

Go Cubs (and Red Sox)!"

had to close that out in a hurry.
