"Square D" ad - last pennant?

One week into the season and I've already heard the new Square D ad more times than I'd like, but I can't believe Pat says it's been 100 years since the last pennant.   A pennant is a league championship, right?  How could they make such a simple error (and rebroadcast it thousands of times)???

The 1945, 1938, 1935, 1932, 1929, 1918, and 1910  Cubs must be rolling in their graves.

Correct.

Is that the way it reads every time he reads it? I haven't heard much of the radio broadcasts this year.

If so, it was likely written by an ad copywriter who knows nothing of baseball history.

But you'd think Pat would know enough to fix it.

He doesn't read it

It's all taped, with Ron and other voices. I was aghast the first time I heard it.

But I don't turn off the radio when it comes on, like I do with the "biggest no-brainer in the history of earth" guy shilling his no-fee mortgage refis as the solution to the mess he and his ilk created.

Yup

I sent Dave Eanet, the head of sports programming at WGN an email. Whether or not Pat and Ron knew all the entire script of the commercial or just the lines they had, it makes them sound like total idiots. Its just not very professional when you're a part of a major league organization as well as part of a major news organization.

Even if he does....

... this ad is probably not in his department. He's the head of sports PROGRAMMING. Advertising isn't programming.

If you want to get results on this, you should find out who the head of the SALES department is at WGN radio and send him/her an email. That person could contact Square D and have them send over new copy for Pat to record.

Yup

Email from Dave Eanet:

Thanks for the email. I'll be honest....we have a couple Square D spots
running, and I hadn't noticed the error in that one. I will let our
commercial copy folks know about it.
Thank you for listening to the Cubs on WGN....

I obviously knew that this wasn't in his rhelm but that he'd know who to tell about it.

Great news!

Thanks for doing this and good of Dave Eanet to get back to you.

Let's hope they change this by Wednesday.

Ya

Agreed. I am somewhat surprised that this was the first he had heard of it. For a few days now its been on a 50,000 watt radio station and the error is pretty obvious. Again, I realize this isn't under his domain however Pat and Ron may be the most notable WGN radio personalities and that is under his domain. You'd think that someone somewhere at the station would have heard of this and told him and if I were him, regardless of how much Square D pays, I'd pull that commercial immediately (and you'd think that Square D would want that, too).

Square d commerical

I thought the exact same thing when I heard it! I thought, was I hearing something incorrectly.

Yup

I pointed this out yesterday or the day before. You'd think that the Cubs announcers or even some low level person at WGN would realize this. I think its extremely embarrassing.

How lame

I'm disappointed to hear the station I grew up listening to, the station my Dad listened to, going straight down the tubes. The TV side isn't much better either.

It's funny, Ch-9 runs these 60 years of the Cubs ads yet this season there's an ALL TIME LOW number of games being telecast on 'GN...71.

thats amateur hour

If you are going to bother to do something like that you think they would make sure to get the facts right.

It's as annoying as hearing people talk about

100 years of the Billy Goat Curse. That's "only" 63 years running.
