Birthday present to end all birthday presents

I could use some help guys. I have this picture here...

Oct1945_medium

via www.productionninja.com

Second from the left is my grandmother, and the person on the far right is my grandfather... they are playing cards with some friends outside of Wrigley Field prior to game four of the 1945 World Series.

The picture was in the Chicago Sun on October 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th in 1945... all my dad has is one copy of it that they clipped out of the paper. Obviously after 60 plus years it's not in the best shape. I was thinking that for his birthday this summer I would try to track down an original.

Does anyone have any idea where I would start?

Contact the Sun Times...

(since the Sun was one of the papers that merged to form the Sun-Times) maybe they still have the picture on file...but that is a long shot since when they moved out of their old building (where the Trump Tower is now) I think I read they got rid of a lot of old things they had around.

Try a library

Almost all public libraries archive newspapers on microfilm or microfiche, and given the right equipment a digital copy of the picture could be created. However, said equipment is fairly expensive and few public libraries can afford it. If you can't find a public library with the capacity to make digital copies [and you likely won't], try a university library. They would probably be able to give you a digital copy for a fee.

Keep an eye on eBay

Here is an auction with 30 days of that paper the month after the dates you need. You can contact the seller and see if he has what you need. And just keep an eye on new auctions.

Why are they waiting?

Do you know if it was for tickets, or just waiting to get in the gate? Great photo and a true family treasure! They weren't sitting by a goat by any chance were they?
