Peoria Chiefs @ Wrigley Field
This is going to be announced later today, but according to my sources the Peoria Chiefs, the Cubs "A" affiliate will play a game against the Kane County Cougars on July 29th at Wrigley Field.
It will be cool to see Ryno in the dugout again.

If It's True, It's A Great Idea
I imagine the ticket prices will be far lower than for Cubs games. This will be a great opportunity for low income (or middle income) people to see a game at Wrigley. I’m glad I can go to AAA games in downtown Memphis for only 6 bucks. It may not be the big leagues, but it sure is more affordable than MLB.

Yep...
From what I understand the tickets will be very inexpensive, and there will be a lot of the minor league entertainment stuff that you don’t see for a normal Cubs game.
Also, it is going to be a night game, so people who work will be able to attend.

They gonna do
bat races and musical chairs and stuff like that at Wrigley?
That would be interesting. Go just for a chance to play musical chairs on the field.

I have heard the same thing.
Excellent news. I’ll probably go to this game myself.

Awesome
That’s great. The Cougars have a really good radio play-by-play guy who I happen to know grew up a big Cubs fan. Bet he can’t wait to sit in that booth and call the game.

A great idea
My only question is, which will be the home team?

The schedule
says that Peoria is the home team for the series. It’s a 4 game series, and it seems odd that they’d play the Sunday game at Wrigley, after playing Friday and Saturday in Peoria, then going back to Peoria on Monday.

Schedule A Bit Odd, But...
The bus trip from Chicago to Peoria is in the 3 hour range. That is short by minor league standards. This has nothing on some of the bus rides in the Southern League, such as 14 hours from Pearl, MS to Zebulon, NC.

The game is on a Tuesday...
...not sunday.

Tickets
When tickets go on sale could someone post the info here, would love to go to the game. Been meaning to head down to see a Peoria game and Ryno, but having them at Wrigley would be good.

Midwest League umpires will be calling the game.
Fans will also be entertained between innings by the mascots of both teams and an assortment of other fun characters who regularly perform at Peoria Chiefs games and several other ballparks. A special appearance will also be made by ZOOperstars! and Birdzerk.

During the game..
I thought I heard Len and Bob mention that this game would be counted as a Cub night game. Does that mean the Cubs get one less night game this year? Aren’t they all scheduled already? Maybe I heard wrong. I’m confused.

The Cubs have 26 scheduled night games.
They are allowed 30. They have two “TBA” games which could be taken by ESPN for Sunday night games. They’re going to use one of the other ones for this—but according to the Cubs website, ONLY if it sells more than 10,000 tickets (which it almost certainly will).

Thanks...
for clearing that up Al. And you’re right. I’m sure they’ll sell more than 10,000 tickets. Should be a fun night!

What's the attendance record for an A ball game?
just wonderin’
by DaveinHouston on May 1, 2008 11:05 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The Midwest League Record
is 14,492. Ironically, it was Peoria at Kane County last August 11.

I'd be really surprised...
... if they didn’t break that record.

Good question..
I know the Kane County Cougars have had several crowds of about 15,000 and did hold the Midwest League record, but not sure about the rest of A Ball.

And if they get over 10,000 tic sold it will count as a Cubs night game.
Not sure if that means much.

I've been looking for 20 minutes and I see NOTHING
on Cubs.com about the tickets. The link in the article sends you to the ticket page but there is zilch on the Ryno game.

I got mine
I opted for the bleachers, since I haven’t been able to get tickets out there since 2004(?). I think the last game I sat in the bleachers were Sammy’s 501st homer. The guy directly in front of me, two rows down, caught it.
I’m a big fan of minor league baseball anyway, so I think this is going to be special.
This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

I note on the ticket page...
... they didn’t list any upper deck seats, though the original press release did list a price for those seats.
My guess is they won’t sell those unless and until the lower deck sells out.
