What is this “injury delay”?? Anything notable?

Gallardo faked an injury.

Soriano

needs to be more patient

by PieFan08 on May 1, 2008 2:49 PM CDT reply reply   0 recs

Wow...sure glad Soriano is adding that much needed ooomph to the top of the lineup!

What is the point of leading him off when things were working so well? Anyways, have to listen to this game at work so “GO CUBS GO!!!”

Wow

Reed Johnson does have a tendency to be a sort of ballhog out there, but that was probably his ball to catch

Ofcourse that was his to catch

He’s the CF….When he is calling for it, the RF needs to get the feek out of the way.

Hall hit it into Right

Fielder tried to score. Fukudome took him OUT with a strike to Soto.

by drewishdrewid on May 1, 2008 3:00 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Dome made up for his mental error earlier in the inning

and threw Fielder out at home on a single. Fielder barrelled into Soto who hung on to the ball for 3rd out of inning

Woo Hoo! Makes up for the screwup.

by Itchy on May 1, 2008 3:00 PM CDT reply reply   0 recs

DIRTY.

That was a little dirty. Fielder shoved his elbow into Geovany’s face. WTF? You’re not supposed to lead with your shoulder and arm like that. Way to go Geo. Helluva throw from Kosuke too.

Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager

by northsider on May 1, 2008 3:00 PM CDT reply reply   0 recs

Not dirty...

that’s exactly how you do it. You lead with your shoulder and forearm as a runner. Otherwise, you take the brunt of the collision yourself. It’s a painful play for the catcher, but that’s the way it goes.

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Not how I was taught.

You don’t go for the face. I was told you’re supposed to cross your arms and just run into him. NOT go for the face like the replay seemed to indicate, although such a thing could be inadvertent on Fielder’s part too.

Wendall, as in Wendall Kim

but since some of us seem to think he’s become Dusty, it wouldn’t surprise me. heh.

Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager

by northsider on May 1, 2008 3:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

To be honest...

I don’t think he was aiming for anything but Soto in general. You’re running full speed and trying to deliver a blow. It’s hard to line up your hit exactly in the chest if you don’t do it regularly.

And what you were taught as a child has a lot more to do with the fact that little kids shouldn’t be hitting other little kids in the face. It’s a little different at the next level.

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:04 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

FYI - Brenly agrees...

it was a high hit, but not a dirty play. Just good hard baseball.

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:05 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Even so.

It looked like he was trying to elbow him in the face. I realize it’s a hard play, but still.

At least we can take heart that it wasn’t Barrett, who probably would have slugged him. ; )

Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager

by northsider on May 1, 2008 3:06 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

I don't think he was TRYING to elbow him in the face...

again, at full speed, you’re just trying to deliver a big blow. It’s hard to aim when you’re running that hard. I really don’t think he was trying to elbow Soto in the face.

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:08 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Wasn't arguing with the "inadvertant" part...

I was arguing with the “dirty” part.

If it was intentional, it was dirty. I do not think it was intentional. Thus, I think it was not dirty.

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:12 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

Semantics.

I said I thought it was dirty, but it also could have been inadvertent. You win, congratulations.

Alan Trammell: Assistant (to the) Manager

by northsider on May 1, 2008 3:12 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

You didn't say "I thought."

You said “that was a little dirty.”

by SouthernCub on May 1, 2008 3:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply   0 recs

To clarify...

My replies to your “I thought it was inadvertant” weren’t arguing. Just pointing out my view of the play. I agree that neither of us can know what is actually the case. Please don’t take it so contentiously.

Soto's got balls of steel for hangin' in there on that play.

I gotta see the replay…there will probably be a video clip up on gameday.

Soto is lucky Jones isn't in right anymore

Soto would’ve still been waiting for the ball as it rolled to him and Fielder would’ve knocked him unconscious.

Theriot tried to go to 3B and was thrown out.
