O's Cabrera to be available?
I have been reading that Cabrera might be available for trade. I would absolutely love to get this guy on the Cubs!
I think he is a future ace. He has a great sinker , which is exactly what we need a wrigley.
I would not be opposed to trading some of our surplus of pitching prospects and a few position players.
I think he is far more valuable to the Cubs right now than Brian Roberts, Fontenot/Derosa are getting the job done.

Dogmatic Mazzone?
That Mazzone guy who single-handedly assembled and fine tuned a Braves staff (including a particular 350-game winner who’s #31 will be retired at Wrigley in a few years) that was great for 10 years, that Mazzone? I like Ricky but it takes the pitcher and the coach to work together to get results. Mazzone has an awesome resume’, Cabrera doesn’t, at least yet.
I agree Cabrera is intriguing, but who knows what the Cubs would want to do in dealing with that psycho-path of an owner there. This kid may very well be in the mix for the Cubs to entertain in about 2 months; when the NWT deadline is a couple-3 weeks away.

#31 Retirement?
The number may be retired for two Cubs pitchers, Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux.

Maddux is not a "Cub"
He is primarily a Brave. His number shouldn’t be retired in Wrigley. Jenkins is a Cub.

I think Maddux...
... means enough to Cub fans that his number should be retired.
He played nearly ten seasons as a Cub—same as Jenkins. He’s in the top ranks of Cubs on the all-time team lists.
And who knows, maybe he’ll still come back again.

not now
I’ve seen a few of Cabrera’s games, and he strikes me as an on again/off again type of pitcher. The talent is definitely there, but he’s just too inconsistent right now. We already have that with Rich Hill. Because I think Hill will eventually make his way back to Chicago, I don’t think picking up Cabrera and having two guys like this in the rotation is a good idea. I’m not saying that Cabrera and Hill are similar types of pitchers—they’re very different. But what I am saying is that both of them have the potential to really suck it up on any given start and burn through the bullpen. That’s potentially a lot of strain on the bullpen. If one or both of them could become more consistent (like Hill was showing us last year), I wouldn’t mind this at all.

No need to be insulting!
I mean c’mon…..Joe Morgan? It’s not like he put down Sandberg in his post.
That said I think Cabrera would be a bad call. You’d be paying more for potential than any sort of performance at this point, which might be worth it if you’re dealing with a 3rd place ballclub looking to 2010 or something, but not in a pennant race. I haven’t seen much of Cabrera on the field, but I know from Orioles fans he’s the one guy on the roster most likely to make you want to punch yourself in the head- and with that collection of “talent” in Baltimore that’s saying something.

Cabrera
Is not the kind of pitcher the Cubs need down the stretch. As previously mentioned, you really have no idea what you might get from him. If this was Spring Training, I say go for it. In June/July, you really have to question getting him. He is pitching better right now but is it for real? He’s never had numbers as good as he has right now. Let’s see in a few weeks what they look like.

Cabrera won't sustain his success this season
He has a .221 BABIP and only a 1.42 K/BB ratio. He’s gotten pretty lucky to have made it this far unscathed.
Now, I am actually something of an Orioles fan as well as loving the Cubs so I’ve seen him over the years. In my opinion the Orioles should definitely sell high at this point, I just hope that the Cubs don’t get sucked into that siren song. He’s been an infuriatingly inconsistent starter for them for years now, as Mazzone hasn’t had any luck fixing him. His stuff is electric but his control is terribly inconsistent, and those wheels will fall off before too long.
However, the way Angelos is, he probably does believe that Cabrera’s turned a corner and will either insist on getting the moon for him, or will hold onto him with the hopes of building to win in 2010.

I remember watching Cabrera at Bowie
and telling my wife – well, this guy either strikes ‘em out or walks them. Maybe if he gets his command together he’ll be in the The Show, but it’s going to be a while. And then he was called up two weeks later. And it’s been the same story ever since.
I think the posts here that have cautioned about Cabrera know what they’re saying. I also think that he still has a chance to be a shut-down pitcher and that the only way you get one of those nowadays is if you swallow some risk. He’d be a good candidate to give a try if the price was right, except that he’d never work with Lou as his manager. If Lou pulls the trigger on Rich Hill as fast as he did… Daniel Cabrera won’t get it worked out in Wrigley. It’s a shame, because I’d like to see what Larry Rothschild could do with him. I think he’d also be a terror in the free-swinging NL Central.

He's been a "future ace"
for about 3 years now. He will routinely walk 5+ a start, throw 100 pitches into the 5th inning, get shelled, and strike out 8. That’s not the kind of pitcher that would be successful in Wrigley.

I agree...
Fontenot and DeRosa have been getting the job done. Cabrera would be great.
