2008 BCB Shirts!

Yes, I am going to try to do this again... and this time, I think I've figured out a way to get the shirts to you more efficiently, AND give you a choice of design.

Thanks to BCB reader santoswoodenlegs, who you know better as the guy who posts all the photos in the game threads, we have two excellent designs to choose from:

Home plate shirt logo

Ivy shirt logo

santoswoodenlegs also made these mockup designs of three different colored shirts, white, gray and blue, so you can see what the logos would look like on each one. Vote in the poll to let me know which one you'd like best. If there's no clear favorite (or even maybe if there is), I might give a choice of logos and colors.

Ivy White

Ivy Gray

Ivy Blue

Home Plate White

Home Plate Gray

Home Plate Blue

Once all of you decide what you'd like, I will set this up through my CafePress account and you can order directly from them -- I'll post a link. That way the shirt will be shipped directly to you and you can get exactly what you want and pay for the type of shipping you want (slow, medium or fast speed, CafePress has all of those choices). I'm going to price them so we can make a $7.50 donation per shirt to Project 3000 (maybe a little more, depending on how many shirts are ordered).

So -- vote in the poll, and soon, I hope to have this all set up for getting a new BCB T-shirt.

We could do that, too.

I don’t think the logos would show up as well on black, though.

How about the pic on the back...

and just a small BCB logo on the front left breast? Just seems more typical of these types of shirts.

Agreed

I like the big logo on the back better

i second this. maybe the home plate shape of the top image could be cut out so that the printed design was just shaped like the plate rather than the box?

any chance of having an option with last year’s shirt design? i really loved that one but i didn’t want to get embroiled in the whole thing….

I like the idea of the big logo on the back and a small BCB logo on the front left chest.

by BartlettBob on May 13, 2008 10:23 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

agree

the big image on the back and smaller logo on the front would look cool

I like the design of the home plate image and yes the ivy represents wrigley but not thrilled with the image

by chicagodave on May 13, 2008 10:28 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that style is more popular...

and i would wear it regularly. I think a small, simplified version of the ivy pic would be nice on the left chest and the plate image on the back. Actually the idea for an ‘08 number in the ivy works would be cool also. Now we’re all fashion designers… so long as we’re not doing the work

by RMRZisMYmanCRUSH on May 13, 2008 10:44 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Suggestion

What if you put the logo on the front then on the back put 08 for the year the Cubs win the World Series and put your BCB name on the top like a jersey?

So nobody has to see the scroll bar on my posts!!!!

by McRipper on May 13, 2008 10:29 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That would require customizing each shirt.

Al

The beauty of Cafepress is if you design a logo you can slap it on anything you want. Heck you could do all the different styles people want and then just do the 7.50 markup that you were talking about.

btw: Im definitely interested in whatever you decide to do. I got one last year and wear it quite a bit.

Proceeds from the shirts

Typically, the way CafePress works is that anyone can upload a design, CafePress gets a cut and the person who uploaded the design gets the rest.

Would anyone other than CafePress and Project 3000 be getting any money from these shirts?

Originally, I liked the home plate one, but after the redesigns, I like the Ivy one much better.

However, I would like it even more if the blue text on the ivy picture was slightly more legible.

That’s the only thing preventing me from buying it right now, lol.

Instinctively, I think the Ivy is the way to go, but...

...the font just doesn’t work for me, for some reason. This may sound weird but it looks too childlsh, too bubbly, too lovable loserish??? I don’t know what the right words are, but the BCB part is just not tough enough. And the bleedcubbieblue.com across the top is kinda hard to read – maybe because the outline letters take up more space and it’s a tight squeeze? What if you went with just a single color lettering across the top (and bottom).

by ballhawk on May 13, 2008 12:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

From a design standpoint I understand what your saying...

I could go with a straight “block” font, but the color choices get pretty limited when you put it over the ivy. White obviously works, as would any lighter color. I was trying to keep the color blue in the design for obvious reasons. I can swap-out the “bubbly” font with something more traditional.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

I like them both

and the second pictures are much better. The designs are both awesome, it just looks like a Comcast promo instead of something that belongs on a t-shirt. It just needs to blend more with the shirt. The home plate design on a white shirt could have the white in the shirt for the white on the base. The blue shirt I’m not sure unless the BCB and written bleedcubbieblue/project 3000 were the blue t-shirt coming through the design. You’re on the right track with more sexy, anything you can make me look good in one of these is appreciated!

That depends on where Al is going to have them printed.

Cafepress does it, customink does it, zazzle does it….so unless Al is using a local shop that just won’t do it, I don’t think it’s out of the question. It may, however, cost a bit more.

FWIW, i had shirts made at customink for a bachelor party

while the shirts themselves were good and the customer service was timely and professional, they struggled with the artwork, colors, printing, etc. and i had to compromise on the design. that was, however, before i learned to utilize the services of SWL (congrats SWL on being my permanent t-shirt designer!) so maybe customink would not have a problem considering SWL’s skills.

Yabbut...

... here’s the problem with customink.

You have to order x number of shirts and then ship them yourself.

I don’t have time to do that. Last time we tried that… well, it didn’t work so well. Yes, I have had offers of help to do this, but to those who have offered—I don’t think you have any idea what you’re offering.

Cafepress may not be perfect, but they do all the work. We are all busy people. That makes it easy for us.

the Howry Cow shirts

were done on cafepress, and it appears that Al is also using cafepress for the BCB shirts. as you can see here, cafepress does allow artwork on both sides, but artwork on the back costs $3 more.

If this could first of all be done

and second of all not be too extra costly, I think it would be a fantastic way to incorporate the best of both designs. If I had to pick just one though, it would be the revamped home plate shirt. Unless of course you really get to work on the Soto shirt, then it’s a whole different ballgame! Thanks SWL!

about Project 3000

The beneficiary of your philanthropy is Project 3000. The uninitiated may read about it here (opens a pdf). The 4 “components” of Project 3000 are as follows:

1. Identify everyone in the United States with Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare blinding eye disease that affects one in 100,000 children.

2. Order affordable genetic testing to those who want to be tested.

3. Provide information about LCA and other rare eye diseases.

4. Solicit philanthropic support for LCA research.

As most of you know, Derek Lee has a child with LCA.

Al, a question on these shirts

Perhaps you missed it when I posed it earlier without directing it specifically to you, but I’m curious if all of the proceeds are going to Project 3000 or if you, BCB, or anyone else besides Project 3000 and CafePress will be making any money off these shirts.

If anyone knows how to do this, email me and I will send you the graphics. We could have a couple of choices.
