How did you hear about BCB?

I've always wondered how people make there way over to BCB.  How did everyone get here?  Was it from word of mouth, google, article on another website?  How long have you been posting here?  I bring this up because lately i've seen a lot of new people starting to post, which is great because I think Al does a wonderful job with this site and seeing more and more people on the site means its paying off (although I'd bet he'd still enjoy this without the numerous people on here everyday).

For me, I stumbled across this website at the early part of last season randomly.  I had googled a stat about the Cubs and saw a link to a fanpost for bleedcubbieblue.  I have to say the site name was pretty intriguing.  I signed up and signed in, and like many others I'm sure, sent Al an email asking "why can't I post after I've signed up!!"  ...24 hour wait period.... hmmmph

That being said, i am Interested to hear how you all found this place.

Can’t remember what I was looking up, but I stumbled on the Top 100 Cub list and went from there. Was in the 2007 – 2008 offseason.

I've been reading

Since BCB’s inception. In fact, I used to read Al’s old site, “And Another Thing,” regularly starting in 2004. I honestly don’t remember how I found it. I think it was from a link someone posted at another blog or something.

through a link on the The Cub Reporter’s blogroll. i believe i found TCR with a google search for “cubs blog” after i read about the “blog” phenomenon in 2005. crazy kids.

Somewhere's around late '05, early '06...

...it occured to me that, if I was sitting around obsessing about the Cubs all day, a few other people might be doing the same thing. I was also starting to grasp the concept of a “blog” around then, so I thought, “What the hell, let’s see if there’s a Cubs blog out there.” (Notice my use of the singular there. Silly, eh?)

I did a search for “Cubs blog” and eventually found my way to this Web site, which is a sort of clearinghouse for Cubs-related blogs. I tried a few of the sites listed there, but BCB was really the only one that stuck. I guess I just liked Al’s balance of optimism, experience and knowledgability. And, even then, I didn’t work up the courage to start posting until sometime deep into the ‘06-’07 off-season.

Ha ha…just checked my profile and I have 6,034 comments. Maybe I should shutup and get back to work.

This past offseason

I’d been on the Bears blog Windy City Gridiron for awhile and saw that there was a Cubs blog too and was happier than a pig in shit. I never was a fan of blogs because most of the time, people on them are full of shit. Well, there are a couple people like that here, but I really enjoy most people’s input on here. Thanks Al and whoever else deserves credit for this blog.

During the offseason

in 06 I just wanted some news, and I stumbled across this. At first, I was skeptical, but then I realized everyone was just like me. And the information was much more credible than MLBTR and MLB4U.

Thanks Al….this site is great! My girlfriend thinks I have a problem though:(

Ditto Google

I’ve been a casual Cubs fan for about 15 years. This year I decided to devote some serious attention to the team. Googled “cubs” last fall and this site came up tops on the list. Also, the Tribune magazine ran a piece on Al and BCB. I lurked for a few months then figured wotthehell and dove in. It’s good to see such great women here and also another free jazz fan!

Word o' mouth

I work with a rabid Mariners fan (I know, redundant—he’d have to be rabid to be a Mariners fan…but I digress). He told me about Lookout Landing and, by extension, SBNation and my new home away from home here. I’ve been a member here and posting on and off for about a year and a half now.

Time is an illusion--lunch time doubly so.

I got here from a link on the Sport Illustrated Cubs team page

I think it was during the 2005-2006 offseason. Prior to checking in here daily, my main source of Cubs news was cubs.com, SI and ESPN. Now this is the first place I go for the game recap if I missed and also to get the scoop on news and rumors. Now I even go to the other SB nation sites to get information about players on my fantasy teams.

I started with the blog thing this past offseason looking for rumor updates faster than the trib, etc. could provide them. I think the prospect of signing Dome is what got me started. I linked to BCB after spending time on another blog and after reading the intelligent posts here vs. many inept ones at the other sites, I was hooked and haven’t left since.

Money magazine

is where I think I first read about BCB. They sometimes have articles about websites. I started reading BCB just around the time Al was asking for help on writing articles for the top 100 Cubs players (fall of 2006, I believe). I was very interested in seeing how this would turn out and was very impressed with the effort that went into it by all who were involved. Google? I don't recall ...

It’s been too long … been here since June of 2006, when the Cubs were tanking and it looked like Woody’s career was over. Glad to see how many things have changed … for the better. I got through my husband’s and brother’s deaths, thanks to this place—kept me sane.

I loved the humour of this site; everyone seemed to hate on the same players I did-Neifi!-and … Dusty. Ack! Now the only person on the team I kinda don’t like is Soriano—but he’s just Fonzie being Fonzie …. hop, hop, hop. A couple of weeks ago, I thought all 10,000 of those damn bobbleheads they’re giving away tonight would end up, tossed from all recipients, in left field ….

stumbled upon it last winter

while on MLBtraderumors. Awesome site Al! Fun to hear so many opinions on different things…......we certainly don’t all agree but we’re all here because of our passion for the Cubs….....even the so called haters. GO CUBS!

A buddy of mine

here in Memphis told me about the site. He’s a season ticket holder (lots of friends/family in the Chicago area) and knew I was a big fan. Don’t know how he found it.

Blog a Bull

Very happy with the Sportsblogs, Inc. network so far, though still waiting on a newcomer to take down the Illiniboard

My friend

and co-worker turned me on to it back in Sept of ‘06. He told me that this site will report things quicker than Cubs.com. I found that is pretty true.

Google

Back in ‘05, just googled “best cubs blog” and well the rest is history. Thank’s Al and all of the outstanding posters on this site for making it my #1 destination.

Google....

..Then early last season, I mention my find (BCB) to some friends who I have sitting with in the RF bleachers for years and they said “Oh that’s Al’s site, would you like to meet Al?” and of course I did. I was promptly walked over to LF for a proper introduction!

Al, my pre game visits have usually been a little short in duration, if you have and extra spot, my goal is to spend at least one game sitting with you and your crew this summer…

Does Soriano's defense at 2B really cost more runs than in LF? He makes a lot fewer errors in LF since misplays and mental mistakes aren't figured into the stats, but I have to imagine that his mistakes are more physical at 2B. Any thoughts? Is there a statistic on this?
