Wow, BlueMike changes to MDBNIU
Now, he changes to cwyers. Never saw that coming.

Wait?
I thought you said he completes me. Now are you going to use my words against me?

So was mine.
We’re confusing each other. You might really be MDBNIU!

Hopefully thats his last start in a cub uniform
This would be a horrible game for us to lose
after winning 4 of 4?
How is it “horrible”? Never good to lose, but…
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
It would be a tough loss seeing how we came out quickly with a 3-0 lead
and marquis gives it right back to the worst offensive team in the majors

It's our 5th starter...
I mean, giving up 4 is bad, especially in the way we did…but did we really think Marquis wouldn’t give up about 4 runs in 5 innings?
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
No, we thought he would, just about.
4/5*9 is is a 7.20 ERA, a bit high for him but not outside of his reach. We just think the Cubs have five pitchers who are better than him, which makes that whole “he’s the fifith starter” business a distraction from the actual facts at hand.
Oh, I'm not saying he should be our 5th starter either.
DFA him all the way to Ballpark of Arlington Hell.
Just saying, it’s not a horrible game to lose. Tough one.
Whatever though, really not all that important. Conversation over?
"This is the kind of thing … that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose." Marty Brennaman
Not arguing Marquis pitched badly.

actual baseball knowledge?
you do realize he has 57 abs right? Lots of players can look good in limited time. See: Shelton, Chris
I am well aware of it.
In fact, that’s about how long Mike Fontenot looked like a good baseball player before the truth set in. Lou just hasn’t noticed yet.
It looks like to me
they are using fontenot for what he is, as a bench player, which is what his career will probably wind up being. As far as Cedeno, my only guess is limit his playing time, so it looks like he is having a good year. Then trade him while his value is high
This isn't fantasy baseball.
You can’t limit a player’s playing time once he reaches a certain BA or OBP and then sell after that player not playing regular.

And who made the last out with runners on first and second? None other than Juan Pierre.
Nanika Ga Okoru!
Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.
The REAL problem
Theriot’s bunt in the fifth, metaphorically and literally, is the reason why we lost this game tonight. One thing a team with a jumbled order, no consistent pinch hitters not named “Ward” on a shallow bench, and a suspect rotation CANNOT afford to do is play with weak fundamentals. Just as Theriot’s bunt should have advanced the runners and possibly won the game, I fear that weak fundamentals could possibly keep the club from playing Championship-caliber ball.
...and, with that, the thread went silent.
Nanika Ga Okoru!
Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.

Lou Piniella seems to geniuenly like Hoffpauir. The problem is can the 28 year old hit at this level if he is only grabbing an ocassional at bat. And what do you really do with him defensively? He’s never played the outfield before and isn’t exactly a natural born athlete. With the presence of Daryl Ward already on this ballclub I have extra hard time figuring a role for Hoffpauir.

Strange game
Can’t win em’ all. But this was a strange game. It seem liked both teams were significantly off their rhythm because of the constant threat of the tarp coming out. I think the Cub hitters were pressing thinking they had to hurry up and get a couple runs before the tarp came out and the game probably goes down as a rain-shortened contest.
But the umps kept letting them play.

Haven’t read all the comments, so please excuse me if this point’s already been made, but has anyone else noticed that the Cubs have a penchant for losing to complete scrubs? Seems like the surest way to beat us is to call up a career minor leaguer and let him start. I mean, Estes??? Come on!
Did we really put Jose Macias on the field? Really???
That's baseball...
