The Dirt on the Pittsburgh Parrot

Keystone, this is for you

SI.com published a list of an all-scandal team with players at certain positions.  The list includes Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, several Black Sox players and many more.  But this list also goes as far as to name a Manager, Pete Rose, GM Steve Phillips, Owner George Steinbrenner and Trainer Brian McNamee.

And the best part is the Mascot for this All-Scandal team is the Pittsburgh Pirate's very own Neon Green Parrot

The bird became embroiled in baseball's cocaine scandal of 1985 when it was revealed before a grand jury in Pittsburgh that he'd introduced assorted members of the Pirates to a local drug peddler and had even distributed a little Peruvian coco powder himself. The Parrot avoided prosecution by cooperating with the FBI.

For those who aren't in the know, there were several games in Pittsburgh earlier where the Parrot (undoubtedly a new guy, but hated nonetheless) actively tried to influence the Cubs Pitchers by sitting behind home plate and acting obnoxiously.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief (unless it's a FanPost posted by Al). FanPost opinions are valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

Give me a break

During the entire pittsburgh series there was an uproar from many BCB posters against the parrot. Forgive me for trying to inject some humor here somewhere.

why are you such a fanpost-nazi?

stop by BCB’s parent site, dailykos.com, and see how many diaries there are.

FYI

dailykos is NOT the parent site of BCB. You are misinformed.

rather,

BCB (through it’s membership in SB Nation) has the same parent as dailykos – markos.

so i hereby revise to “stop by BCB’s sister site, dailykos.com, and see how many diaries there are.”

No, you're wrong again.

SBN and dailykos are separate entities. dailykos.com is NOT a “sister site” to BCB.

Markos has an interest in both sites. That’s the only connection.

"That's my opinion and if you don't like it, well, I have others." ~ Groucho Marx

by Al on May 15, 2008 5:05 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not sure why this seems like a big deal to you

i think you are understating it a bit by saying that Markos “has an interest in both sites”:

In addition to running Kos Media, LLC, which publishes Daily Kos, Moulitsas is also founder of the SB Nation network of sports blogs . . ..
So, Markos “runs” Kos Media, LLC, which publishes dailykos. I couldn’t find any further info re: Markos’ interest in SB Nation, but as founder, I’m sure he retains a significant interest. Therefore, Markos is a parent of both dailykos and SB Nation, which makes them sister sites, although separate entities.

by joeschmitt on May 15, 2008 8:13 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

apparently it's a big deal to you as well since you keep responding

all sniping aside, seems to me that a “sister” site of BCB would be one of the other SB Nation sites, i.e. Viva El Birdos, the other “BCB”, Let’s Go Tribe, etc. Or even one of the SB sites in the other leagues (NBA, NFL, College, etc.).

Regardless of Markos’ involvement in dailykos and SB Nation, the fact that these two entities have virtually nothing in common content-wise, I don’t see how you can consider them “sister” sites.

i dont care about the substance

but i think its fairly common for people to respond to set the record straight when someone tells them they are flat-out wrong on something. i was using “sister” in the corporate sense of having a common parent, which i thought i made pretty clear but i guess not, since you and Al both thought i meant that the sites have similar or related content. obviously, they don’t. probably just a misunderstanding.

game over! - ARAM FOR MVP on May 5, 2008 7:32 PM EDT (down 3-0 to the Reds in the 1ST INNING)

It appears that you do care about the substance...

... otherwise why would you have mentioned it in the first place?

FWIW, no matter what you think of the views expressed at dailykos, the fact is that it is a much larger site than ANY of the SBN blogs, getting hundreds of thousands of hits a day. It’s no wonder there are so many diaries there.

And that is the last thing I am going to say on this topic.

Speaking of the Pirates' mascots

Does anyone remember the first season of Road Rules? I think one of the contestants used to be the pirate mascot guy, and was fired when he was arrested for public indecency or some other sort of shenanigans.
