Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

well he here lets see what he can do

am not a big fan of the Jim Edmond signing but he is here so hope comes back to form i will miss Felix and you will too hope this is not a mistake in the late innings or when we need a stolen base who are best out field defender he will be in Iowa  i hope this does not bite them in a rear for a aging vet that  that wants a last taste of the majors

you mean your stunned the Front Office didn't consult the blogoshere regarding this decision?

Read what Lou says this is the over riding factor, that Lou (and the ball club) is confident that Pie is ready to contribute every day at a MLB level.

Now inherent with this expectation is the need that Edmunds will be ready and able to contribute every day.

Actually, I was referring to the fanpost itself with that comment.

1 paragraph. 79 words. Not a single punctuation mark to be found. Nothing stated that hasn’t been said more coherently in roughly 100 other places on this blog and probably 1,000 others. No offense, ualriv, but I wish you’d exercised a little more restraint before cluttering up the fanpost bar with another discusson on this topic.

Why?

Try to catch lightning in a bottle at VERY low cost AND give Pie a chance to work through his issues in AAA.

This is what I figure

Hendry tried winning by having 2 angels on his team (Pagan and Guzman). That didn’t work so now he signed Satan.

We are all waiting for that glorious October night when we finally win it all. Until then we will continue to cheer, never do the wave and hope.

Soriano should hit 5th. Period.

He can't DO ANYTHiNG

If you can ignore the fact that Edmonds is a raging asshole, which is hard to do, the dude can’t play anymore. He’s barely adequate in center any more, and will get found out in bigger parks. He can’t catch up to even a decent fastball anymore, and he was never that good on a decent breaking pitch. He’s lost most of his power and speed. Quite frankly, I hope he goes 0-23 and we can send this douchebag packing. Problem with that is if they bat him 5th, they’re just going to walk Aramis to strike his now useless, aged ass out, which might COST US GAMES. If he bats 2nd he robs us of an on base guy in that slot, because, wait for it, HE CAN’T GET ON BASE. Frankly, this is a ridiculous move, and we would have been far better off sliding Fukudome over to center more often and playing DeRosa and Cedeno, and stop being so hung up on a left handed bat. As shocking as this may be to Lou and Hendry, a left-handed bat that sucks is STILL A BAT THAT SUCKS.

OK, let's put the best construction on things

Edmonds is able to spell Johnson, Fukudome, and Soriano once in a while to keep them fresh.

Although he’ll strike out, he’ll take out his aggression on Gatorade coolers and stuff, making himself look hilariously ridiculous (or ridiculously hillarious) in the process.

After about two weeks of Edmonds looking like a clown in the Majors, and Pie finding his bat in the Iowa, Edmonds is dropped and Pie comes back up, looking like a champ.

Dusty Baker, always eager for another declining veteran who hacks away at bad pitches, signs Edmonds as insurance in case Corey Patterson begins to falter.

See, we’re Cubs fans. We can dream.

by Rev Gunia on May 14, 2008 6:13 PM CDT reply actions

Close

He won’t likely play the corner OF positions. So the lefty will bat against the righties and Johnson against the southpaws.

How long he’ll be here is TBD. He may flame out in a couple weeks, he may be here the remainder of the season…The intangeable here is Pie. I’m praying someone can knock some sense into him and get him to shorten his stroke. He has WAY too much time spent going into the zone and coming out of it and not enough time in the zone. If there’s truly a way to have the “Fukudome effect” we’ve all talked about here to rub off on someone, Felix is the one I’d most want to see that happen.

And Dusty? I couldn’t care less. He and his teams’ presence in the division will be relatively meaningless and even more so if Jr. is dealt back to Seattle.

At best: this is Jason Kendall part II

And that’s not saying much.

But in this case, the Cubs already have the

alternative plan available and that’s Reed Johnson. With Kendall last year, there were no real alternatives. Barrett was gone, Hank White I think was still DL’d, we didn’t know we had the stud-in-waiting, Geo yet and Bowen was gone so it was up to Kendall. I’m missing one guy right now but can’t think of who it is. The Cubs had six different catchers at one point or another in 2007.

by blackhawk24 on May 15, 2008 6:42 AM CDT up reply actions

Time to deal with it

Jim Edmonds is now a Cub. The proper thing to do is support the decision of Hendry/Lou and wish Mr. Edmonds to have renewed success with the ballclub. It would be immoral and classless to desire ill play from someone on our favorite team.

But somehow, I can’t do it. I don’t care what my inner ethos and general rules of sportsmanship tell me.

Jim Edmonds, I hope you go 0 for 20 with the team, and you are cut within a month’s time, thus ending your career in misery and despair.

by Neifi Puppy on May 15, 2008 6:11 AM CDT reply actions

I'm with you

I just can’t stomach this. I have a cubs flag that I fly over my porch. It goes up and down depending upon my laziness, the weather, and its usefulness to sustain a win streak or stop a losing streak.

However, I’ve only intentionally left it down once before, to protest Dusty Baker’s incessant playing of Neifi Perez. I’m not flying it today, partially in protest and partially to deprive that Cardinals-loving neighbor of mine from having an evil giggle when she drives by. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still follow the cubs, but I doubt I’ll have any joy when he plays, and I don’t know that the flag will be flying.

Hope you prove me wrong, Edmonds.

by TC Cubby on May 15, 2008 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

This is the most unnecessary move I've seen in a while.

With Pie on the bench or in CF, this team is winning. Edmonds is not only performing poorly, but he is a complete shit bag. I know it. You all know it. The whole world knows it and just because Jason Friggin Marquis says he likes Jimmy boy, does not a good move this make.

WTF is all I have to say about this. I am not even sure I can cheer for this guy when he plays (succeeding or not). I despise him.

Oh and as for this fanpost…WTF too? Is this English?

Calm down.
