OT: New Kid on the Block

I know what you're thinking...

Star-divide

"This idiot tried to make everyone think he was posting about the Edmonds pickup and now I'm stuck reading something stupid."

Wait! Don't go!

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am new on BCB. I have lived in Minneapolis, MN most of my live and was born and raised a Twins fan. For many years of my childhood, I had never heard of the crazy idea of a pitcher BATTING!!! I moved to Chicagoland a few years ago, and was introduced to Wrigley Field by some friends of mine. I hope you all believe in love stories because this was love at first sight! I had only heard about Wrigley Field and Cub Nation and all it's antics, never really experienced it all... Since being a Cubs fan, I've never felt so "right" about anything in my life. In Minnesota, we'd get in fights with... "Royals" fans... and you'd be on your own. At Wrigley, you get in REAL fights with Cardinals fans and Brewers fans! Best part about it all, you have 40,000 crazy fans to back you up! The sense of unity in Cub Nation is like none other.

Sorry for boring you all, but I had to introduce myself. Al, GREAT job with this site. It is like nothing I've ever seen! I had been settling for cubs.com for the past few years and this is so refreshing! Al, I hope I can meet you sometime, I go to about 30 games a year and I'm almost always in the Bleachers!

I look forward to a long, illustrious career of Cubs blogging with you all!

GO CUBS

Welcome...

...we are pretty laid back here, sans a few Edmonds and lineup comments.

Here’s a tip: if your diary/fanpost isn’t directly related to the Cubs (like this one, or asking about traveling tips, good bars to watch the game, etc.) usually we put OT for “Off Topic” before the post, like “OT: New kid on the block.

Other than that, welcome. I lived in Minnesota for a good 12 years and now am at KU right outside of Kansas City, so I’m sure we are familiar with a lot of the same guys and teams. Welcome to the best Cubs blog on the internet.

Thanks...

...thanks man I appreciate the advice and (sorry everyone!) for not putting the OT!

...stupid rookie…

Anyways, what part of Minnesota did you live in Dan?

Oh...

...and when you’re reading posts…

to highlight/select/mark as read…you click the “Z” button. Makes it MUCH easier to scroll through game posts. And game posts get big – Al usually posts two for one game – and they get 500-800 posts each.

Family in Mankato, brother just graduated from UMD, girlfriend from Faribault, and brother now lives in Minnetonka.

Dan

PS – You can always go back and edit your fanposts, aka put “OT” in

Have patience I beg of you...

haha I’m sorry I’m actually pretty good with computers, hell I’m majoring in telecommunications management for god’s sake, but I’m having trouble understanding the whole “z” thing. I read what it said up at the top… am i pushing “z” on my keyboard? Or am I clicking something that says z, and what does it do? Any other tricks I should know about? Sorry… haha I’m an idiot.

Welcome Dave...

Fun site…gets addictive at times. Al does a real nice job running it and most of the posters are pretty cool. It’s great to have you here!

Al could retire and go to Cubs games all the time.

Oh, wait…he does that anyway. :-)

I go to all the games, yes.

But retirement? Hmmmm….

for your sake

I hope you have an understanding boss. I can’t tell you how many times I have been caught reading/posting at work. Good thing i happen to work for a sports fan who gets it.

Welcome

personally I’m glad it’s not another diary about Jim Edmonds. in addition to the “OT” advice, two more:

1. Don’t create a diary about changing the Cubs lineup. We’ve already had 696 diaries discussing it.
2. Don’t create a diary on getting Brian Roberts. There have been even more diaries on this topic.

From one Dave to another, welcome aboard!

I’d rather read 10 fanposts from new people introducing themselves and telling their personal Cubs stories than a single, hastily scrawled manifesto about Edmonds, the lineup or why no one should ever dare raise a criticism of Sweet Lou.

Hi Dave

Be sure to post your story in the Why Are We Here link on the right side of the home page. It’s good reading if you get some time.
