I Hate You But I Love You

With the Cubs recent signing of Jim Edmonds, a lot of people have been saying how it's so hard to cheer for someone you used to hate. I truly don't think that's a reason to despise him, because if he were Albert Pujols I don't think Cub fans would have a problem hating him. Which brings me to my question, which player in the MLB do you hate the most, but would love to have on the Cubs. I will post my answers in the comment board.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of SB Nation, Bleed Cubbie Blue, or Al Yellon, editor-in-chief. FanPost opinions are, however, valued expressions of opinion by passionate and knowledgeable baseball fans.

I would have to say...

Maybe Ben Sheets because he fits in so well. Him, Zambrano, Dempster, Lily, and Hill would just be a ridiculous starting rotation.

If he were Albert Pujols...

I would hate him because that would mean DLee had been traded.

As I've told you before, I never repeat myself.

As much as I like Lee...

and he’s one of my very favorite players, I could definitely get used to the idea of having Pujols instead. Call that heresy, but he’s really, really good. There isn’t a better 1B in all of baseball.

Why not both?

the fleet-footed Pujols can play the outfield again, right? our CF problem is solved!!!

Dude, are you kidding me?

That isn’t heresy that’s a major upgrade going to Pujols. I take that straight up any day. You can never have enough great players.

It's all how you look at it...

Pujols is definitely the more feared hitter, but Lee seems to be more well rounded. IMO, Lee is one of, if not the, best defensive 1B in all of baseball. I’ll give Pujols the offensive nod, but I still wouldn’t take him over Lee. Now take Lee out of the picture and I’d be more than happy to welcome Uncle Albert to the North Side.

I was looking at moving Pujols...

to left, Soriano to right and Fukudome to center. It doesn’t matter anyway cause the Cubs are never gonna get Pujols.

It's funny how everyone has forgotten the damage DLee did in the 2003 NLCS

since he became a Cub. Why would Edmonds, Pujols, Sheets, etc. be any different – if they performed to fans’ expectations?

by JFCubFan on May 16, 2008 9:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Lance Berkman.

Ever since he faked getting beaned, I’ve loathed the man (and I was 4 rows behind HP plate that day; he did not get hit.) and had nothing but bile for him, but he can just flat out hit.

Seconded.

I hope he goes into a cold spell starting on Monday.

PS.

At first I thought this would be another Edmonds post, but it’s actually an interesting twist on his acquisition. Nice topic.

A-Rod

Yep, he might be the best player in this current generation of baseball. Still, I don’t care for him nor how so much media is thrown his way. Still, if he were a Cub… as long as he didn’t become another Sosa….

by TheHawkRules on May 16, 2008 6:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Zambrano!

Wait, we have him but I can’t stand him and I am glad that we have him.

I don’t like the Fielder kid but I’d take him, too.

Barry Bonds 5 years ago....

I never liked the guy. Not even when he was in Pittsburgh, but there is no questioning his ability to hit the ball and the impact he had on a game.

While I do not hate the guy

ManRam would look awfully scary in this already powerful lineup.

Calm down.

Cubs colored fireworks signify a Cubbies Win at Wrigley West.

Actually, there was a patriotic fireworks display after the game. I don't say this as an Oakland A's fan, but I'll tell you without reservation that fireworks games are better at the Oakland Colisseum.

Tonight's fireworks were over the bay and into the fog. Also, the best audio is inside the stadium while the best views are outside of it.

Usually in Oakland, people are let on the field, the speaker pump music through the stadium, and fireworks are shot overhead from the bridge that connects the stadium to the BART trains.

Long story short--come for the cubs v. giants game, leave for the train ASAP.
Raise that victory flag over Wrigley West!
CUBS WIN!!

Kerry Wood just struck out Fred Lewis despite giving up a triple to Bengie Molina. It was a close call for a slugfest of a game!

There's nothing like having the true blue fans rise up and cheer on our road warriors.
This is the right field wall that separates McCovey Cove and the stadium. Can you pick out all the blue in the stands? I nominate this place as Wrigley West--just grow soe Wrigleyville ivy on those bricks!

Fact: There is a splash hit counter toward the other end of the wall, and it only counts homers hit into the bay by SF Giants. They call them "legitimate splash hits."

What a crock!
It was Veterans Appreciation Day at AT&T Park, hence the military band and flag bearers. It was cool to see SF legend Willie Mays get honored for his military service.
