Brewers DFA Turnbow
Apparently Milwaukee just designated Derrick Turnbow for assignment.
Amazing that he was just an all-star a few years ago and he's terrible now. Not sure what happened. Trust me...as the season goes on, Milwaukee's bullpen is going to be their undoing...not sure if any other team would want to pick him up, but there are always teams looking for bullpen help. Maybe he can turn it around in a new city...

He wasn't that good to begin with.
All he could ever do was throw hard.

Let's not undervalue velocity though
a well located 98 MPH fastball is next to impossible to make something of.
Calm down.

You've figured out the problem.
Location. He had it for a while, lost it, and now his velocity is down.

Exactly...
velocity doesn’t mean anything if you can’t locate your pitches. Plenty of guys can throw gas…
You ARE freaking out MAN!
He's been too inconsistant for the past three years
from 06-08 he was not the pitcher we saw in 05. I reminded me of Latroy Hawkins. A pitcher who shouldn’t have been closer and was placed there and his career went downhill fast
2008 Cubs: Why Beat A Team in Regulation, when you can beat them in extras?
I can't believe I'm saying this
but I actually felt sorry for him the other night-something I can’t remember ever feeling for an opposing player. The Cubs looked like they were taking batting practice.
Turnbow is not good anymore
and maybe your point about him not being that much worse than gagne is somewhat valid, but where does Kerry Wood fall into this equation?
Well, Turnbow had three full seasons...
...before this one as a major league reliever. Kerry Wood had less than half a season as a set-up man last year and a month as closer so far this year. I think Wood remains a work in progress; whereas Turnbow has had plenty of chances to prove himself.

Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.
Three full seasons...
... only one of which was any good.

The Yankees or the Mets may pick him up.
You know, those two teams really have an eye for pitchers. “The finest in NY.”
(Yes, I’m being cynical.)
I agree about the Yankees. There is something distinctly Farnsworthian about Turnbow.

"Farnworthian"-truly a term to chill the blood!
Just knowing guys like that manage to stay in the majors makes me suddenly feel A LOT better about our bullpen!

Turnbow
is the poster boy for the all-esthetically challenged team. The scraggly hair and the baggy uni only add to the effect. I’ve always wondered why he adopted that image.
Probably
Turnbow came up in the Angels organization. The Cardinals collect old Angels like they were bubblegum cards.

Incidentally..
... when he was in the Angels organization, he was suspended from international play for testing positive for a banned substance, which supposedly was an OTC diet supplement.
He received no sanction from MLB, but I believe this ultimately led to the Angels waiving him.

Not surprising
Derek Turnbow has been terrible for a long time now. It was past due time for the Brewers to bite the bullet.
I don't think "bite the bullet" is the phrase you're looking for there.

Cardinals probably pick him up
and he turns into the next Rivera..
