Chad Fox up, Hart down
The feel good story of the winter just got even better.
The Chicago Cubs today selected right-handed pitcher Chad Fox from Double-A Tennessee. To make room for Fox on the 25-man roster, right-hander Kevin Hart was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. In a separate move, the Cubs outrighted right-hander Juan Mateo to Single-A Daytona.
Fox will wear uniform No. 44 and be available for tonight's game in St. Louis. Chicago's 40-man roster is at 38 players.
Hopefully he won't be a bust and be able to contribute. Looks also like Mateo is pretty much done as a MLB player. Hart will be up soon, IMO.

Wow, Hart gets the ol' heave-ho.
Once again, Lou Piniella does NOT mess around.
Has anyone heard anything further on Mateo? As reported in this edition of Josh’s Minor Leage Wrap, there’s a rumor that Mateo is actually considering retiring from baseball entirely.

Oh, and remember, folks: Alfonso Soriano is NOT batting leadoff. He's batting first.

I wouldn't doubt it
Talk about a prospect falling from grace (well not entirely). A guy who started a couple of games and pitched decently have fallen to absolutely no value

That kind of thing happens all the time.
Remember he was part of the 2006 rotation, which wasn’t very good. He’s got that one game where he threw at Roger Clemens to remember, though.

Glad to see him get the call
Look forward to seeing him back soon and hopefully get used with some regularity. I really hope he stays healthy, if for nothing else than to be able to go out on his own terms. After all he has gone through, I think he deserves that at least.
The greedy side of me will take him being a great set up man for Marmol then Wood (or Wood then Marmol).

C'mon Dude
Its not his fault all these pitchers keep gettin’ hurt.
Honestly, I don’t believe Dusty takes any responsibility for what happened to any of them.

Actually this one can be blamed on Dusty
Fox was coming off an injury and should have been used very VERY carefully. After it appeared Foxs arm was falling off Dusty left him him after a back to back appearance and throwing a ton of pitches.
Fox
1. Should not have been pitching that day
2. Should have not thrown as many pitches as he did.
Dont know if you calling me DUDE was a slip or not but ironically funny. He was not supposed to pitch back to back days….Dusty neglected this and the guy came of the field in pain, I felt horrible.

Sarcasm there...
I knowingly used “dude” and place a lot of blame on Dusty for what happened. ESPECIALLY to Chad Fox.

I expected Hart to be shipped out soon.
I didn’t expect to see Chad Fox back up, though.

Deep Goat?
Has Deep Goat made any mention of trades that the Cubs will engage in? There’s a lot of chatter on AM radio that the Cubs are going all out for Crisp.
My Dad also had heard on AM radio that the deal for Roberts actually was agreed to in principle, but then it fell through.
I know we’ve debated about this to the Nth degree – just wanted to know from Al whether he has heard any chatter lately?
Jacque Jones is gone, and I doubt Ivan DeJesus would mind this!

Have heard nothing from DG lately.

Marketing agreement with MLB
It is visible on every Team Schedule on the MLB site. Must be some sort of marketing agreement. As long as they dont put the Indiana Jones logo on the bases and patches on the players (spiderman), I am fine with it.

Zambrano can put the whip to good use.
Now that he is fond of “hammering” or “nailing” Fontenot to the ground in front of the dugout camera. Perhaps he can hit him too with Indy’s whip. :-)

This move
has utterly perplexed me. I understand Hart being sent down, but Chad Fox? Really? I’m befuddled.

Meh.
The guy is an injury waiting to happen. Maybe we can get a few good innings out of him and give Howry a bit of a rest.

C'mon
He’s just like Dennis Quaid in the Rookie.
(i.e. he was throwing with high school kids last winter and, although long retired, suddenly realized he “still had it”.)
This kind of thing always turns out well.

Well
Kevin Hart wasn’t getting the job done. Right now our bullpen is in perilous condition. We need people to step up in middle relief, otherwise Carlos Marmol will be run into the ground by July.
Chad Fox is a surprising move. I’m not sure what to make of it, other than perhaps an indictment of Pedro Ascanio.
by MDBNIU on May 2, 2008 5:15 PM CDT 0 recs
Anyone else think that possibly....
.....Hart was sent down for Fox, so he can start down in the Minors and build up his arm strength in case a Pitcher(s) is traded he can be a starter?
